  1. Model S stolen!

    General Tesla Motors Discussion
The important message to all Model S drivers is this: turn off passive entry. Turn it off now. The setting is in Settings, Doors & Locks. You have to have unlocked the car and press the brake to be able to change the setting. Note that this is not the same setting as "Auto-present handles". The...
  2. **Tesla Drivers Needed for EV Research - £30 for your time**

    General Tesla Motors Discussion
I have taken part in this research with TRL. It's an easy £30 for about an hour of your time, and does give some ahem, interesting insights into how "a large automotive manufacturer" perceives the information requirements of EV users.
  3. Strange speed limit signs in France ?

    General Tesla Motors Discussion
It does also affect AP1 cars; I know because I have one, and it got infected with this acknowledged bug back in April when I accepted an OTA upgrade to firmware 8.1 while in France. Since I've been back, UK mph speed limits display as though they were posted in kph - i.e. 30 limit shows as 19...
  4. Chademo and Tesla

    General Charging Discussion
I don't use it regularly, but when you need it, you need it. Well worth the investment IMHO.
  5. Ultimate Rapid hogging record by i3 REX

    General Charging Discussion
The really stupid thing is those DBT chargers, whose rapid charging capability becomes useless whenever their much slower AC side is in use. Ecotricity should disable the AC side and install much cheaper and simpler AC-only charge points in nearby bays.
  6. Buying second hand

    Tesla Model S
Don't they use J1772 charging connectors in Japan, like in the USA? That would make an import rather problematic. You might have more luck with an Australian model, as I believe they use the Mennekes Type 2 connector.
  7. Digbeth or West Drayton?

    General Tesla Motors Discussion
Pick the one that's (a) easiest for you to get to, and (b) lets you drive back on the most interesting roads.
  8. Charging on CHAdeMO

    Tesla Model S
But it might help him to find you -- as I understand it, when you press the button it will interrupt any charging (though it should resume after a short while), and the owner will get an app notification to that effect. Of course if charging has completed, he won't.
  9. Charging on CHAdeMO

    Tesla Model S
A possibility, certainly, though I'd hope that by now it would be an automatic thing for Service centres to check and update the adapter software, and/or new adapters would be supplied with the correct software.
  10. When do you turn on range mode?

    Tesla Model S
At our pickup the DS suggested leaving range mode on all the time. We dutifully left it on for the first couple of weeks but were bothered by the whine from the front motor and the chilly breeze from the vents. Since then it's been off, and there's no more whine, and the heating is definitely...
  11. Remortgaging the house for a Tesla??

    Tesla Model S
Personally, I've always shied away from avoidable borrowing and the day the mortgage was paid off was a happy one. But with today's extraordinarily low levels of fixed-term interest, and the availability of higher savings rates than loan rates, the old certainties are not so certain. We were...
  12. Charging on CHAdeMO

    Tesla Model S
I may be missing something, but that site seems geared towards those with an Irish address and an Irish registered EV. Are visitors to Ireland able to apply for an ESB card?
  13. Charging - chademo vs type 2 43kw

    Tesla Model S
A full charge at either Norton Park or Badger Farm should be more than enough to get you to Le Mans via Portsmouth-Caen. I realise it's a longish crossing, which is why we've always gone overnight. It just takes planning. A journey like that is not really one that you can expect to do at the...
  14. I Found a Shelf Today!

    Tesla Model S
Get a proper dashcam installation, wired in to the vehicle electrics. The strong recommendation from the Facebook group is to use Simon Turff Holbon ( U.K.) Ltd - Suppliers and Nationwide Installers of Vehicle Security, Hands Free Car Kits and Speed Camera Protection Equipment - lots of owners...
  15. Premium Interior

    Tesla Model S
I don't have autopilot. I realise I'm in a minority. AP wasn't available when I had my test drives, but I found the behaviour of the TACC quite alarming. So I didn't order the AP feature. I can always get it added, but as I saw it then and still see it, whether or not AP is a "must have" depends...
