  1. Norway to London...

    Tesla Model S
@knoxie, that's my point. I'm not doing a long distance EV trip. I'm getting 1,200 miles of driving of a car I can't afford ;) And that should give me plenty of review material. In all honesty, I'm not a huge Tesla fan. Yes, the neck-snapping acceleration is fun, but actually, I'd much rather...
  2. Norway to London...

    Tesla Model S
So... As you may or may not know, I'm heading off to Norway on Friday to drive a Tesla Model S P85 back from Oslo to London. So is the wonderful Robert Llewellyn. But as editor of Transport Evolved, I've not always been a fan of long-distance electric car reports. So I hear you ask, why are...
  3. Transport Evolved: What's This Then?

    General EV Discussion
I'd forgotten to include the news for a few weeks. But here's Friday's TEN. We're now linking to the individual news stories directly from the YouTube video, and we've made some other fun changes. Let me know what you think. Nikki.
  4. Are today's EVs fit for long trips?

    General Charging Discussion
    @Dave Davies Exactly! :)
  5. Are today's EVs fit for long trips?

    General Charging Discussion
I honestly can't see any reason for NOT using Ecotricity in that part of the world. Most of the M4 corridor has redunancies (either the same side or the other side over a bridge) and the same is true in most cases for the M5 too... Sometimes, I think people just need to own up and say "I...
  6. Ecotricity tweet to Outlander owners

    General Charging Discussion
Thank you Paul. I think there are some people who use these forums just to bash plug-in cars. They're all about moaning, not solutions... Let's get more solutions :) And let's remember that no single plug-in car is being FORCED at GUN POINT to drive these long-distances. In fact, now I come...
  7. Ecotricity tweet to Outlander owners

    General Charging Discussion
I think the thing everyone needs to remember here is that everyone has a choice. No-one is holding a gun to anyone else's head. If you decide that the network, or the charging infrastructure isn't up to it, then don't use it. If you understand that it has its limitations -- like ANY network --...
  8. Ecotricity tweet to Outlander owners

    General Charging Discussion
Oh I think you know my sarcasm ;), but in case others don't, that was a sarcastic comment that perhaps I would have once reserved for my life as a teacher. These days, I suspect you all know who it's aimed at.
  9. Ecotricity tweet to Outlander owners

    General Charging Discussion
Well, that's a particularly mature thing to do. I am so glad I know this wonderful group of intelligent, well-rounded people. You know, people who can disagree and have decent conversations without twisting what the other has said...
  10. Ecotricity tweet to Outlander owners

    General Charging Discussion
Kevin, You know the real reason I chose a Volt as a second car. It was because my wife works as an IT contractor, and she often has to drive where there isn't charging yet. So don't make this something it isn't. Grow <insert particulars here> up. You claim to speak for a group of owners...
  11. Tesla throttling HTTP API

    General Tesla Motors Discussion
Hang on, We're talking about a hundred thousand dollar (pound) car capable of doing some serious damage if let into the wrong hands. We're talking about a car which has such advanced features that it's possible for you to drive it without a key (provided you have a cellphone). We're talking...
  12. Ecotricity tweet to Outlander owners

    General Charging Discussion
Thanks Kevin, You and I know that Ecotricity doesn't have any control over the parking at those locations. They're on private land They're owned by someone else. Ecotricity doesn't have any access (AFAIK) to the CCTV camera system. They don't have any legal right to fine people. Only...
  13. New Supercharger site spotted in Bristol

    General Tesla Motors Discussion
Kinda bummed they didn't tell me the date, despite saying "let me know, I'd love to come along and interview some folks..."
  14. Is the E Golf not 7KW?

    Volkswagen e-Golf
Hi folks, When I was at the Volkswagen GTE launch event in Austria last fall, I mentioned it to the VW engineers -- and they did say 7 kW would be on the way for Europe 'at some point'. They didn't say how long that would take though.
  15. Access to customers and visitors only...?

    General Charging Discussion
Can you give me some sites that are bugging you?
  16. Is it me or are the Rapids not so rapid anymore?

    General Charging Discussion
It's worth noting too that different cars will have different responses to the heat and cold. Because our LEAF does 100+ miles a day, and gets two charges, its battery pack normally stays nice and toasty. But about four weeks back after not being used for a few days (I had a press car on loan)...
  17. Could I ever charge my Reva G-Wiz with a Type 2?

    General Charging Discussion
You can do it, and I'm happy to help. As we've been discussing via PM. While I'm about it: I have a J1772 Type 1 socket to 16A 'Camping' adaptor (J1772 Type 1 socket is the power IN and blue combo is the OUT) that is a portable unit, but that would be overkill for you as you're going to only be...
  18. New Supercharger site spotted in Bristol

    General Tesla Motors Discussion
Yup. Expect an announcement soon :)
  19. Is it me or are the Rapids not so rapid anymore?

    General Charging Discussion
Yup. It's the cold. But it's also possibly your battery temperature and age. With nearly 70k on the clock now and 1 bar lost, our 2011 LEAF is a lot slower at DC quick charging than it once was. And full power usually tails off after about 60 percent too, especially in the cold. If you're...
  20. BG have been, told me cable ain't big enough!

    General Charging Discussion
I was just about to say the same thing. 16A charger could do. But to be honest, you will probably feel the benefits of a 32A charger. Remember however, you don't have to have British Gas do the cable upgrade. You could always find another provider to do it...
