“British-designed WEVC Coupe 'reinvents' the EV”

Now if only a mainstream manufacturer could achieve the same weight, range and performance in a sports car for half the price, and maybe with a soft top?

I want one though, don’t you?

Yes, I’d be in for one!

I had an old 912 back in the day, sold it at the lowest price they ever were, had nowhere to store it.

Now I’m ‘into’ EVs, I’d love to have been able to convert it to electric, but realistically something like this would be more sensible.

Didn’t they convert a 356 on the Vintage Voltage TV show? That cost a lot more than one of these IIRC.

Always fancied a Chesil Speedster as well.
Kerb weight 1000kg, 40kWh battery, range of 230 miles. Is that realistic?

It was a Chesil on the TV show, done for Mr Chesil himself as a possible joint product for both companies.

Probably WLTP range. So I guess around 170 miles in the real world.

40 kWh Ioniq is quoted to be 193 miles WLTP and weighs a bit over 1600kg. EVDB thinks around 150 is realistic.

This kind of efficiency is what the industry need to strive for. Not 95 kWh battery but only 213 miles WLTP range. It's like they are purposefully wasting energy!

I like it. But then I'd happily drive a Mk1 Fiesta with no modern bloat in it.

Quite a few people have converted 912s but their very expensive. I’ve been variously quoted £20-£50k to convert my old MX-5 with a similar level of performance and range, which on a car worth £5k at best isn’t realistic. There will be a bunch of cheaper options in the next few years I’m sure, but something new on a bespoke ev chasis is always going to be a better option (apart from emotional attachment to the old car).

Claiming 'reinvents' is a bit strong.

There is also https://rbwevcars.com/ if you wanted an electric British Coupe.

I actually asked for the Chesil brochure to see how much their electric car was:

Note it is a kit requiring assembly. Went with a Tesla, cheaper, big enough for the kids, and comes pre-assembled.

...at least approximately 😜 ...

Someone had to do it...I'll see myself out...

Yes, the Tesla ticks a lot of boxes, but irrespective of speed, it’s no sports car. I want something that puts a smile on my face going round corners at legal speeds. Not really a Tesla (or big heavy car in general) forte.
No, not if its rear wheel drive.
??? Why?

Given RWD gives far better drive, far better turning circle, and better handling why wouldn’t you.

Fwd is better in 1 situation, snow. In uk we get 1 days snow every couple of years (unless you are in Scotland or Wales) so why have a worse car for 364 days of the year for a better one 1 day of the year.

Fit all seasons tyres in the winter and problem solved.

Glad someone finished the joke about some Teslas needing a little re-assembly - didn't want to make it too obvious 😉

You are too subtle by far 😉
