3.0 OTA - who has it?

Hi,

I took my ID4 into the garage a few months ago, to upgrade software ready for the 3.0 OTA upgrade. The car was in the garage for 4 days as the update took this long.

I am yet to receive an OTA upgrade to 3.0 - has anyone else in the UK had this yet?

Thanks.

So I‘ve taken my 2021 1st Ed ID4 into my local dealer (in UK) today to have the v3.0 update done. After a lot of moaning about winter range and scheduled charging issues and quoting TPI 2068680/5 they agreed to do it. The service advisor printed off the huge TPI notes and mentioned that they need to take it back to ID v2.2 before it can be updated to v3.0 which I thought was a little strange..
The car is currently on v2.4 (shows 2.3) and already had the 12v battery replacement.
Fingers crossed I get my car back with less issues than it went in with…

Which dealer would that be? How long have you been asking for the workshop update?

This is Johnson’s Solihull VW. I just booked it in for the rear light bar needing refitting and mentioned it needed a software update to v3.0. Initially they told me it does not and it’s all up to date but I kept pushing back that it essentially broken and doesn’t charge as advertised. I mentioned that TPI number and once they looked that up they seemed more on-board with it. Also that TPI mentions that it improves the cold weather range of the car so it helps to moan about that too.
But once you’ve quoted a TPI on their system they can hardly deny that there’s an issue. The car has been doing the update all day and not finished yet so they’ve given me a brand new ID3 on v3.2 as a courtesy car which is nice.

Taking my ID 4 GTX 2022 in for its front parking sensor to be replaced and whilst it’s in for this it will have the software update to v3.0. Called the dealer to check that it was on the job card and confirmed it was on to do and said it would take two days. They extended the courtesy car for for the extra time unfortunately they confirmed I will be having a polo. I really didn’t understand why the dealer didn’t update the software before I took delivery of the car two weeks ago as it was their demonstrator but at least they are going to do it.

Mine is in the dealer at the moment, it’s taken them 1.5 days to do the v3.0 update but they’ve kept it another night as they’ve ordered some new clips for the rear light bar to be re-mounted as it had popped out slightly in the middle (common issue apparently). Thankfully they had an ID3 available as a courtesy car.
We also purchased our approved used ID4 first edition only 3 weeks ago but the v3.0 update isn’t listed as a recall or a must fix type thing. It seems quite hard to get the dealer to do the update so I’m happy they’ve done it as the OTA option seems to be a way off yet.
Good luck! 👍🏼

My first service is coming up so I might see if I can persuade them to do the 3.0 update at the same time. What should I be saying the problem is that TPI 2068680/5 addresses? Is it the scheduled charging issue or something to do with Intelligent Octopus...?

Both. Tell them you cannot schedule the charging using the vehicle as the feature is broken in the car on v2.4 and you cannot connect the car to smart charging tariff either (this is only available on v3.0+) so you are spending significantly more on charging in the peak rate than you should be because features on the car are broken and need fixing with TPI 2068680/5.
You could also say that your winter range is quite poor because they made some changes to the battery heating strategy (lowered the temp at which battery heating engages) but I believe that content is also in v2.4 but they may not know that.

How did your update go?
I'm still waiting for mine to be done as the front sensor had to be ordered in and the car is back in Monday. To get everything done, had a disagreement with the dealer on who's fault it was on the damage of the sensor so I just told them wither they fix or they they take the car back as the issue was with the car when I collected it. They are lending me their manager's ID Buzz when my car goes in (Johnson's Sutton Coldfield)

Had no issues with the v3.0 update at-all tbh and everything working fine since. They did not properly fix the rear light bar popping out though so I will probably book it back in again for that.
Cool that you will be getting an IDBuzz! We are just down the road in Knowle and our dealer is Johnson’s Solihull. We often come to Sutton Coldfield as we have family there.

Nice one. I crammed it into the 100 characters allowed when booking a service online and I'll bring it up again when they call/email to confirm the appointment.

It took a couple of chase emails to confirm that they're aware of the request, but they've agreed to do it without any argument. Fingers crossed it goes through without issue.

My ID.4 First Edition (March 2021) has now been upgraded to V3.0 via the TPI at the dealer. It took them a day, including picking up and dropping off the car with me. All seems to be working well.
My ID4 first edition went in to have its 2.4 upgrade and a handful of warrantee issues looked at.

Came out with numerous issues related to the failed software 2.4 upgrade. .... including :-

  • fold in wing mirrors, intermittently not responding, meaning you have to drive the car with no mirrors
  • charging percentage slider bar inactive on infotainment system, randomly shows Km not miles
  • Bluetooth phone link fails, with incoming calls ring on the car and keeps ringing until the car is powered off
  • naturally timed charging still doesn't work
  • spurious GOM figured (I mean wildly inaccurate!)
  • app still doesn't work properly
  • infotainment system hangs (more than normal)
  • car no longer passes charging % to my Ohme
  • car doesn't lock reliably, sometimes indicators flash other times not, (not a key battery issue)

Dealer isn't responding to my emails, now the VW executive office are involved !

Wow!!! So glad my car was delivered with 3.0.

Feel for you mate i hope it gets sorted for you PDQ.
My ID.4 First Edition (April 2021) has now been upgraded to V3.0 at the dealer, after I complained that I had been waiting since last August, following 12v battery replacement and V2.4 in the workshop. It took them just over a day, including picking up and returning. All seems to be working well, although, I haven't noticed anything really different except for battery percentage, now in binnacle and logging in. I am travelling to Yorkshire soon, so I will be able to see if navigation is any better.

Navigation is much improved, with better graphics and better motorway junction directions, including lane information. Another useful addition to sat-nav is to be able to specify target range at charging stops and end of journey, so automatic charging stop calculation is more like ABRP and doesn't cut in early. Worth having a play with the settings to get a better plan.

Another useful addition in 3.0 is 135kW charging up from 125kW - if you want fastest possible charging get to a low SoC before plugging in.

So is the 2.4 to 3.0 upgrade now a workshop job? I understood that it was to be over the air.
The over the air update to 3.0 has been paused by VW. An announcement on the future of the OTA update will be made by VW sometime this month. Volkswagen ID. Drivers Club | Facebook

In the meantime, if you want 3.0 enough you can have it done at the workshop under TPI 2068680/5 on request.
