This is a bit of a theoretical question, as I have a 32A PodPoint. But... if you were to plug a type 2 to type 2 Ohme cable into a lower rated charge point, would the cable be clever enough to recognise that it can't draw 32A and instead drop to 16A or whatever can be supplied? If it did so, I assume the display on the unit would show 16A rather than the 32A it normally shows?

Yes and no.
The cable isn't that clever.
There are three capacity limits - the EVSE, the cable and the car. All three are thrown in the pot and the lowest is what gets taken by the car.

That's the simple version - someone else will be along with the detailed technical process involved. :)
