I just put a comment on Petrol Ped's youtube review of the Kia Sorrento PHEV - questioning that a 7.2kw charger should be able to fill a 13kwh battery in 2 hours, whereas he'd stated that it took upto 3 and a half hours. He just answered stating that the first and last 20%s took more time - is that right ? I thought that rate of charge was steady across the board ?

Very unusual. In Leaf it charges with full power until around 90% (if not higher) and then the cell balancing can take around hour at the end.

As above, pretty much every EV does this, charges at whatever current is advertised as being available for the bulk charge phase, then throttles the charge current back as the battery SoC gets over around 90% to 95% or so for the cell group balancing phase of the charge.

Depending on how out of balance the cells are the last bit could take a while to complete but it wont be at 7.5kw more like under 1kw
