Most articles about the iMiev mention its aluminium spaceframe chassis.

Does anyone know if the car actually has any aluminium in its structure please?

I own a petrol 'i' and can't find any aluminium underneath that!

I'm starting to think the original 'i' concept car had the aluminium spaceframe and it's become a myth that the production vehicles also have it...

It frequently disappoints me that the great ideas of the concept never actually make it through to production. Of course, I understand that there are many reasons why this is so but unfortunately it is often not the option people might want that makes it through. It is often determined by the economics of manufacture and that is sad.

I have been involved in several focus groups assessing new car ideas and I have been excited by the ideas I have seen only to see few of the innovative ideas actually made it through to the production version.

Does anyone know if the iMiev has an aluminium structure?

Hi Paul, I also asked the question on Mitsubishi's Facebook page and they were very prompt in replying:

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK Not sure where you got the information from but our manuals state that the monocoque shell is constructed from various grades of high tensile strength steel panels. Page 8 of the 2011 sales brochure states the i-MiEV has a lightweight steel monocoque body, integrated with the chassis, of course.
