Hi guys.
I have recently purchased a Vauxhall Ampera and love it.
I’ve got a granny charger which works fine for the time it sits at home.
what’s the best charging cable to get for charging in the public network? Mac Donald’s and council run car parks all have stations are they the same?
Petrol engine is cracking so no range anxiety but would like to keep battery tipped up when shopping.
Thanks!

All you need is a Type-2 to Type-1 cable, 16A rating. Here's one possibility. But it's going to take an awfully long time to pay for itself! You may find one a bit cheaper in the Classifieds in here, eBay, gumtree etc.
J1772 to 62196-2 16A EV Charging Cable / Plugs Type 1 to Type 2 16A Premium EV Charging Cable

Do see the "Guide to buying a 2nd hand Ampera" in the GM Motors section, lots of great advice & hints. If you do not have a mesh grille at the bottom behind the front radiator, protecting the radiator from stone damage, make one up & fit it now. V expensive fix and it will brick your car if it gets damaged, and quite a few have done! DIY guide is in here, should be linked-to from that thread I hope.

Check out Ebay and Gumtree as the type 1 to 2 cables are now obsolete - they work with older EV's like leaf / Outlander (and the Amp :) )
welcome to the Ampera owners - its a pretty exclusive club ;)

If the car is not fitted with a grill - do it now, the rads are vulnerable!

@HandyAndy is right though the cost of a cable is difficult to justify, but its a nice nice warm fuzzy feeling running on electric so that helps justify the expensive.
