7kw charging was an option on the 24 and 30.
Depends on leaf efficiency but I'm getting 3.5miles per kW at the moment so for 7kW you get in the hour at best case scenario about 24.5 miles in an hour. More when it's warmer and the miles per kW increaseI read the early Leafs or is it Leaves didn't allow 7kw charging. Do all the 30 kw versions have 7kw charging? This is very important to me because where I live (Whitby) there's no rapid charging for 20 miles.
Is there a town of Whitby's size anywhere else that doesn't have it? I might start a thread on it. I'm already a serial thread starter in my week or so of being registered on here.
Also, how many miles could I add in one hour at 7kw/hour?
Oh. Only an option. Any idea what proportion of second hand Leafs had owners who took the option?7kw charging was an option on the 24 and 30.
I didn't know there was an official used Nissan site. Leafing (ha ha) through it all the 24 and 30 kw ones listed only had the 3.5 kw charging. When I bought my 24kWh Leaf a free years back I specifically wanted the 7kW charger, and was able to wait for something suitable to come up. Absolutely worth it, both for charging away from home & for time of use tariffs like Octopus Go with just 4 hours cheap electricity per night.
I got mine via a large dealer - was probably an ex lease or PCP car. The salesman listened to my requirements, and called back once they had something suitable on their books.
The official Nissan used car website was reasonable well labelled then, but mostly I was reading adverts and looking for the tell tell dashboard photo of the remaining time to charge (best way to be sure which charger was fitted, did it show one time or two?)..
Leaf 2 is all post-2018, so the new style Leaf. What is Leaf 2?
Salisbury doesn't have a single rapid. 💩Is there a town of Whitby's size anywhere else that doesn't have it? I might start a thread on it. I'm already a serial thread starter in my week or so of being registered on here.
There are a bunch of InstaVolt rapids by Costa/McDonald’s on the 303.Salisbury doesn't have a single rapid. 💩
Yes, and? A city the size of Salisbury ought to have a rapid charger. Indeed there was a decrepit BP rapid in a central car park that I used once a few years ago that seems to have disappeared. There are a bunch of InstaVolt rapids by Costa/McDonald’s on the 303.
No question when charging at home, with a 3.3 kW car, sometimes it doesn't even feel like worth the effort to plug in for an hour.Absolutely worth it, both for charging away from home & for time of use tariffs like Octopus Go with just 4 hours cheap electricity per night.
Leaf 2 are 40kw, E+ model has a 62kw battery and 215bhp motor - great fun.Did they stop making the 30 kw Leaf in 2018? I can't find any of that year. Does Leaf 2 mean 40kw?
As far as I remember (full disclosure: I can't be bothered to check), for the older models of Leaf and e-NV200, if the model name includes Plus it has 6.6 kW "fast" charging, otherwise 3.something. If the model name incudes Rapid it has CHAdeMO rapid charging. Rapid Plus models have both, but plain Rapid don't have 6.6 kW charging.Do all the 30 kw versions have 7kw charging?
Few people “needed” 7.4kW. Most people charge overnight and 3.6kW can do that. Back then many home charging points were 16A so lots of people wouldn’t have been able to take advantage of a 7.4kW even if they had it.A frustrating thing is that not many used car listings mention what charging rate their 24kw/30kw Leafs have. From the Nissan leaf used car site I get the picture that very few new Leaf buyers went for the option of 7kw charging.
20miles per hour indicates 6.6kw charger based on 3m/kWh.When I bought mine (from Nissan main dealer - 2015 Tekna 24kwh) there was no mention of 6.6kw onboard charger - however, when I go to the regular public charger, it charges at over 20mph, or over 20% an hour so if for example, I went from 0-100%, it would take probably around 4.5 hrs
Now, based on the fact I've about 20.5kw battery life now (11 bars) - if I have a 3.3kw charger it should take 6.2 hrs, if I have a 6.6kw charger on board, it should take 3.1 hrs - but it takes somewhere in the middle
I've no idea if I have the 6.6kw charger on board or not - I assume no, but then, its charging faster than a 3.3kw charger should. ie - 20 miles an hour
7Kw chargers are actually 6.6kw on Leafs (and other EVs)Few people “needed” 7.4kW. Most people charge overnight and 3.6kW can do that. Back then many home charging points were 16A so lots of people wouldn’t have been able to take advantage of a 7.4kW even if they had it.
