Hoorah, they are putting them in Scotland as well to provide an alternative to Swarco.

This is great news, I really rate Osprey.

Pretty sure the Wolverhampton “hub” is only going to have 4 units (only! 😂) but maybe there’s plans to expand that later.
I welcome with open arms all networks that will install chargers in Scotland because the combination of Swarco and Local Authorities who won't/can't afford to, repair chargers will never end.

I've had a good experience at Gridserve at the MSA on the M9 and BP Pulse on the M8 MSA (& at Carlisle). Not yet tried Osprey and Instavolt, the other two highly regarded networks.

Meanwhile, being ignored in Wales. Again. 😥

Unsafe charging in Wales due to electricity leeks.

Scunny is a >50kw charger desert. As is Hull (nudge)...

Mind you - up to two weeks ago (MFG Stretford opening) so was Manchester...

The fact they're using Kempower looks really good too - this video goes in to how their charging platform works and manages high speeds for everyone connected:
The fact that the charging backend will automatically handle a car tapering off at the end of its charge & give that capacity to another vehicle is fantastic, a very elegant solution.

I particularly like being adjacent to Curry’s/PC world. Easy to run in for fresh batteries for the car while I charge the other ones….

Apologies if this has already been asked, but does any one know exactly where they are building out the Osprey hub in Banbury ? They claim 'M40' so is it just off the junction roundabout perhaps ?

That's a good tip for MG owners!

Are there actually going to be two in the Wolverhampton area? The announcement mentions
Osprey’s first hub will open next month in Wolverhampton, adjacent to the A463 near the M6
and later
Construction is starting on the first 10 hubs at the following locations in 2021:
(snip)
  • Wolverhampton, A4123.
(snip)
The second looks more like Oldbury/M5 area maybe?? (The first somewhere between Wolverhampton and Walsall - Bilston/Darlaston/Willenhall? Anyone seen this one which should be approaching completion?).

Nooooo we get a second Rapid at the Carway Pub in Carmarthen.......
Anything on the A303, it's a virtual desert.
Is it?

Going West -> East
3*60kw dual GRIDSERVE Units - Moto Exeter (technically not A303 but it's a staging point).
2*50kw Instavolt Honiton
2* 62.5/125kw Instavolt Newcott
1*50kw Osprey Stonemasons Illminster
1*50kw Swarco Illminster
1*50kw Swarco Illchester
2*50kw Instavolt Wincanton
1*50kw Osprey Wagtail Wincanton
2*50kw Geniepoint Morrisons Wincanton
1*50kw Swarco Town Centre Wincanton
1*50kw Swarco Leigh Common
2*50kw Instavolt Amesbury Town Centre
4*80kw/120kw instavolt at Amesbury Solstice Park (with another 4 coming “soon”)
1*50kw BP Pulse Amesbury Solstice Park
1*50kw BP Pulse Amesbury Holiday Inn Solstice Park
(16*250kw Tesla supercharger, if you drive a MuskMobile)
1*50kw Geniepoint Weyhill Eastbound
1*50kw Geniepoint Weyhill Westbound
2*50kw Osprey Chakhill Blue Pub Andover
1*50kw Geniepoint Esso Garrate Andover

Then onto the M3.

I'll admit there's a few sections (between Leigh Common and Amesbury) where there's literally nothing, but that's “only” 30 miles. Plus there's a bunch of new Starbucks drive thrus that will presumably get instavolt units and a few MFG garrages that will get their 80/150kw units too. One MFG garage I noticed driving down this summer sits right under an 11kv HV line, which would be a perfect location for a bank of their HPCs.

Okay there's no true HPCs yet. The closest are the ones at Newcott if you're the only car there (125kw) or Amesbury if you have an 800v Vehicle (120kw, otherwise 80kw). It would be nice to see some 150kw+ units go in that can actually do 300+ amps, but I wouldn't call it a desert?

Edit: I'll admit the fact Tesla have managed to put 16*250kw units in at Amesbury where the other major operator (Instavolt) has only managed to fit 4 units with half the power output demonstrates how remarkably unaspiraitional most charging providers are. I know everyone gets excited about the 12*350kw units at Rugby services, but will that seriously be enough in three years time? Or even two?

Likewise I'd question this. I used to get from Devon to London by charging at Route 303 (2 Instavolts) and Weyhill (1 Genie either direction). However at the start of this month for the Fully Charged show I tried Wincanton and was spoilt for choice - there were 2 Instavolts I used on the way up and, just for the change, 2 Ospreys I used on the way down - both within strolling distance of McDonalds, KFC and a harvester style pub. I believe there are also some charge points at the Lidl there, but didn't need to explore that far.

My guess is that there will only be one the A463 crosses the A4123 at Lanesfield(ish)
If they open a hub at Berwick that would be a good spot in my opinion. Go past it a lot on trips diving Eyemouth and Farnes and a few more chargers up there with the growing number of EVs out there is good. That said, it’s not badly served anyway up that neck of the woods.
