Hi all.

Been happily using my estate for a few weeks. Finally got app-connect activated last week. Today when I went to connect with Bluetooth to call home I couldn't connect. Got phone on the steering wheel and it says phone starting. Then when hitting phone on the stereo it says phone not available.
This is the first time trying it like that since getting app-connect activated. I can only assume it's broken due the software change as it worked ok before.

So, before I go back out and try a few things (below) is there anyone else who has had this?

Things I'll try:
Phone Bluetooth reset.
Head unit soft reset
Full factory reset
Return to VW

Thanks

I don't think I've had my phone fail to connect in the nearly three years I've had my Passat GTE. But I don't have app connect.

Never had any issues with mine either. Did you do a full "reset vehicle to default" when you picked it up ? Mine arrived with a profile for Neil, who was the previous owner ! I done a full reset, paired the phone(s) and all been ok since.

Thanks both. Yes I did a full reset when I picked it up (when I got home in fact). Had connected my phone before the reset and then again after and it was working fine for both streaming and phone. Could control it via steering wheel or infotainment. I actually rememer making a call after getting app-connect done as I called home to say I was on my way. Yesterday was the first time making a call since then. The only change I have made is connecting to car-net. It could be related. I have since found out that you can control the bluetooth connections via the steering wheel and mfd? dont remeber doing it that way when I got the car.

What I have done so far:
1. Reconnect bluetooth via main screen and phone
2. Soft reset (button hold on main screen)
3. Factory reset on infotainment

None have worked apart from the car bluetooth did briefly pop up on the phone after factory reset but then failed again.
Doing some searching I found this LINK. Sounds exactly the same so will use that as evidence and should be covered under warranty.

Couple of things I will check before contactign the dealer:
1. Go back and look at a phone reboot and bluetoth reconnect via steering wheel
2. Found somehting somewhere releted to older VWs but could be relevant; find the bluetooth module under the seat and start the car with it unplugged. Car off, replug and try again.

I'll keep this updated.

None of the Bluetooth reset/module fiddling options worked. It's booked into the garage that did the work and they are giving me a loan car while it's in. The guy on the phone said he was pretty sure what the issue is as they have seen it before. Just didn't want to have to take it back in as it messes with nursery drop off.

I'll keep this updated.

At least you won't have all the fuss I had re-establishing contact yesterday with all the rain and poor mobile reception in rural area as result of VW updating mobile services overnight as in this Email received:-

"However, we will require your assistance following the system update that will take place on January 20th 2021 between 00:01 a.m. and 04:00 a.m. (CET). The next time your Volkswagen is started after the update, communication will need to be re-established between your vehicle and our systems.

To do this, the relevant profile for the primary and secondary user must be selected in the vehicle’s infotainment system depending on the driver, and the correct S-PIN must be entered. If you are the primary user and will be unable to access your vehicle for a prolonged period, please inform a secondary user about the steps that need to be performed after the system update. We have provided detailed instructions for this below."

Suffice to say it didn't turn out quite as simple as the enclosed instructions after locking everything down as a "Guest user" in maximum privacy mode:

"Please proceed as follows the next time you start your vehicle after the system update:
  1. First switch on your vehicle’s ignition. If your vehicle is unable to connect to the Internet at its present location, please move your vehicle to somewhere where it can establish a connection. Communication between our systems and your vehicle can only be established when there is an Internet connection.

  2. Next, please select your profile as primary or secondary user from the available user profiles.

Please note: If you do not actively select the primary or secondary user from your user profiles, the guest user profile will be selected and your vehicle will be in ‘Maximum privacy’ mode. There can be no data connection between the vehicle and the data server in this mode. This means that the functionality of various services is also restricted. The current vehicle status is also not shown in the We Connect web portal or We Connect app.

  3. If prompted, enter the four-digit S-PIN.Once you have entered your S-PIN, you may then be asked to enter your username and password. Please enter these if asked to do so. Once you have entered all of your details and your user profile is successfully accepted, please check whether the globe in your infotainment system turns white. This means that your vehicle has been reconnected to the Internet and can communicate with our systems. This may take a few minutes.

  4. If the globe in your infotainment system does not turn white or the infotainment system in your vehicle behaves differently from the above, you may need to turn your ignition on again. Leave the vehicle to stand for a few minutes, then try again."

Got the car back yesterday and all now working as it should. Service guy couldn't say exactly what they did but it was along the lines of resetting the app-connect install.
