Engine oil temperature should be somewhere around 250 F. One needs to keep in mind though that BMWnow uses an electronically controlled thermostat so the DME can manipulate the coolant temperaturebased on different driving scenarios to help acheive better fuel efficency and engine performance.

...and also that BMWs usually display oil temperature, not water temperature.

I should have stipulated that it was actually the water temperature I was after.

I have a water temperature gauge that when the car gets up to normal operating temperature the gauge reads approximately 110 degrees

Does this sound about normal?

Yes - it's a pressurised system so will operate at above 100 degrees C. As long as it's steady temperature and mid-range it's fine.
