"Book your complimentary battery change and ID. Software update today" - Anyone else had this?

Hi all,

Just had this email come through and was wondering if anyone else has also received it?:

"Please arrange a visit to change your current 12-volt battery and receive the latest software update

We would like to invite you to schedule an appointment with your local Volkswagen Retailer in order for your vehicle to receive a new and improved 12-volt battery. At the same time your retailer will update your ID. software to optimise battery efficiency at low outside temperatures and prepare your car for additional over-the-air updates.

This service appointment is expected to take one working day and will be complimentary. Please contact your local Retailer to book an appointment and to discuss any replacement car requirements."

I'm slightly dubious about this, car dealers never give anything out for free unless it's to cover their tracks. Is this another VW PR disaster waiting to happen I wonder..?

(Bearing in mind I've only had the car for 3 months as well!)

I regularly check the ID3 forums - and am in the same "boat" waiting for the approach about the 12v battery replacement for my ID.4 First Edition.

What's going to be interesting is when I first got the car it went in about 6 times for software issues, producing errors etc - and one visit they attempted to swap out the battery with their demo ID.4 to see if that helped - and it failed with errors and had to be swapped back ! I wonder if the battery swap is going to work for mine ! - In addition the rattling back door with the back light cluster (which is known about by VW!) - they can look at that as well ! ... better try and book a loan-er as I don't think mines going to be a simple job !
I'm holding back on booking my ID4 first edition software upgrade and battery change to see how other owners get on. When I first took delivery the car was riddled with software faults and an attempt to change the battery (due to a flickering display) failed ...they couldn't re-register the battery ! .. I'm unfortunately not expecting it to go smoothly !!

I also need them to fix the creaking / rattling light cluster on the tailgate (it's a known issue apparently), an a back door handle that feels loose !
My ID.4 First Edition went in and upgraded seamlessly. There was a delay getting it back as I had asked them to do the light bar on the tailgate too and the part did not turn up for two days. There are many stories of the upgrade going well, so don't fret too much.
I hope it does go well - My concern is pretty justified (unfortunately) when I took the delivery, afew days later - it was throwing up errors and lit up like a "Christmas Tree" ! With "Stop driving", "Engine faults", coolant low, displays going "dead and blinking", Sat nav would cease to work for a day, Audio would stop, the dealer who sold it to me - vanished and didn't respond ... Head office were useless ... and it took some effort to agree to them to ask my local dealer to look at it ... but when it kept going into the dealer the Faults/Diags showed nothing - but the pictures (and video's) I took proved it had "issues"...

I ended up becoming friends with the mechanic (who at the time was only just starting to get some ID training) - who I would show the pictures and video's each time it went in - to demonstrate the issues. As he said "he was learning with my car!"

VW Head Office were useless, the Dealer (although they tried hard) had no support the ID range was new to them, VW breakdown could help (the AA couldn't even read the OBD port) ... it was only after 6 visits to the dealer the car started to "stabilise", I had their ID.3 loan so frequently they should have given me a key and put me on the insurance !

The current version of SW that was delivered OTA - hung and took a day longer than it was mean it (apparently).

So I'm sort of guarded and cynical this will go well !

I know this isn't a scientific and the "update process has only just started", nor is this a genuine "survey size" (and only the experience of afew ID4 First Edition owners) - but unless I've miss-understood - only one First Edition user has upgraded "seamlessly" (who's posted on here)?

May be time for a questionnaire for ID.4 owners and upgrade success?

a) my First Edition ID.4 Upgraded without any issues
b) my First Edition ID.4 Upgraded but with issues (that took more than one day)
c) my First Edition ID.4 has not updated and there are problems
d) I'm waiting for my First Edition ID.4 to be updated (it's booked in)
e) I'm not booking mine in yet, until I see how other people's upgrades go?
No doubt they will reimburse you if you keep the receipt.
Errr - My 6 visits for warrantee works - I raised this - not even a response from VW HQ or the dealer when I queried my out of pocket losses !
