Is this your first new car?
Happy clappers out in force this morning :ROFLMAO:

I've been on the VW band wagon with new cars for over a decade, first EV though.

I've clearly been very lucky to have never had multiple call backs going off this thread 👀 For what it's worth, I'm in love with my ID4 aha. Just never expected to be sending her back so often!

I'm not sure why you took that question in such a way, it was to gain an understanding of your experience. How am I supposed to know your car background.

If you're au fait with the motoring world then why initially was it such a shock that cars may sometimes go back for work, especially when you hear it in the news of recalls etc. Typically it happens when cars are newer.

Being an EV makes no difference, it's still something that's been manufactured that can be made wrong / not up to standard.

I regularly check the ID3 forums - and am in the same "boat" waiting for the approach about the 12v battery replacement for my ID.4 First Edition.

What's going to be interesting is when I first got the car it went in about 6 times for software issues, producing errors etc - and one visit they attempted to swap out the battery with their demo ID.4 to see if that helped - and it failed with errors and had to be swapped back ! I wonder if the battery swap is going to work for mine ! - In addition the rattling back door with the back light cluster (which is known about by VW!) - they can look at that as well ! ... better try and book a loan-er as I don't think mines going to be a simple job !

I received my invite from VW yesterday, but when I rang my dealer they informed me it wasn't available yet, so today, I rang VW UK to try and clarify what was going on. They didn't have an answer, but later this afternoon, I received an email saying that the initial invite was sent out prematurely and I should book my update and battery upgrade week commencing 31st July.

I tried to book in for the recall with Lookers in Guildford … the dealer told me that they had only become aware of the recall from customers, as VW had failed to inform them, and they were not ready to take booking yet. They need to put a “plan of action” in place, and I’ll have to call them back in a week’s time.

It doesn’t look like this recall is very well organised!

Got my email yesterday and booked it in via the website. I'm fully expecting to turn up next week and be told that they don't know what they're supposed to be doing with it.

I did the same, so I called today and they did indeed have no idea what I was talking about. After some back-and-forth I am now booked in for the actual update (including new 12v and two days for the software update) on 5 September... I asked for a courtesy EV, let's see if that happens...

Ugh, I should do the same shouldn't I. I just abide using the phone.

Well my lovely ID4 is now stuck in the workshop for a second day, no info except that the upgrade keeps failing part way through. There’s nothing special on the car (1st edition) and if it’s really taking 3 days or more for many vehicles this has got to be a disaster for VW.

Worst of all I have to travel tomorrow so will need to use their ICE loaner. I’m going to expect some extreme shock not having used a petrol station for 3yrs+ now!

I'm holding back on booking my ID4 first edition software upgrade and battery change to see how other owners get on. When I first took delivery the car was riddled with software faults and an attempt to change the battery (due to a flickering display) failed ...they couldn't re-register the battery ! .. I'm unfortunately not expecting it to go smoothly !!

I also need them to fix the creaking / rattling light cluster on the tailgate (it's a known issue apparently), an a back door handle that feels loose !

My ID.4 First Edition went in and upgraded seamlessly. There was a delay getting it back as I had asked them to do the light bar on the tailgate too and the part did not turn up for two days. There are many stories of the upgrade going well, so don't fret too much.

I hope it does go well - My concern is pretty justified (unfortunately) when I took the delivery, afew days later - it was throwing up errors and lit up like a "Christmas Tree" ! With "Stop driving", "Engine faults", coolant low, displays going "dead and blinking", Sat nav would cease to work for a day, Audio would stop, the dealer who sold it to me - vanished and didn't respond ... Head office were useless ... and it took some effort to agree to them to ask my local dealer to look at it ... but when it kept going into the dealer the Faults/Diags showed nothing - but the pictures (and video's) I took proved it had "issues"...

I ended up becoming friends with the mechanic (who at the time was only just starting to get some ID training) - who I would show the pictures and video's each time it went in - to demonstrate the issues. As he said "he was learning with my car!"

VW Head Office were useless, the Dealer (although they tried hard) had no support the ID range was new to them, VW breakdown could help (the AA couldn't even read the OBD port) ... it was only after 6 visits to the dealer the car started to "stabilise", I had their ID.3 loan so frequently they should have given me a key and put me on the insurance !

The current version of SW that was delivered OTA - hung and took a day longer than it was mean it (apparently).

So I'm sort of guarded and cynical this will go well !

Well, I’m definitely in the ‘not seamless’ category! Despite there being no issues before going in I’ve just had the call to say it’s still not ‘taking the update’, the car can’t be driven and they’ll try again Monday. That’ll be 6 days in the shop.

Even worse, I had to put petrol in the loan car - I’ve never seen the number flick round so quickly!

Ugh, my garage just called to say they're "struggling" to get the update done on mine so they've offered an ICE courtesy car. Can't say I'm keen to drive a dinosaur car again, after 4+ years of EV driving.

Yeah, this specifically is not something I want to be doing! These places really need to get some EV courtesy cars available.

No doubt they will reimburse you if you keep the receipt.
