Hi All
New here - test drove a 2015 (registered) in Wellingborough yesterday - model was a positiv - loved it so did my wife. Checked the VIN prior to test drive and it was a 2012 build. I thought a 2015 registered would have the rear armrest but this car did not. Anyway to cut a long story short today I bought a 2014 electron in Birmingham with arm rest and Bose thingies and satnav for the same price - happy days hopefully - collect on Saturday whoop whoop. Any advice on installation of a 16 amp home charge station? Plus best place locally for Ampera service work?
Love his forum you people made me go for the Ampera.

Congratulations and a very warm welcome to the forums (y)
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the car? Always useful for us to know as it gives us an idea of what our cars' values might be.
I had the home charge station fitted for free by British Gas - I think I just went on their website and signed up for it, and they contacted me shortly afterwards to arrange a fitting date. It all went very smoothly really.
My personal experience (others may have different experiences!) is that Drive Leicester aren't up to much, but the Milton Keynes garage are quite a lot more on-the-ball. Not tried the Birmingham one (Lookers?).
Enjoy counting down the days to your squeaky-clean shiny new Ampera! :)

Thx for the reply
Both cars were 19995- but glad I went for the 2nd one- I traded in a smart car so obviously less than that.
Thx for the reply - don't think British Gas do it for free anymore.
Are you happy with yours?

Thanks - how many miles does it have on the clock? Sounds like a nice car :)
I absolutely love mine, and in fact have I think only found one owner for whom the combination of battery range and back-up engine didn't work out - everyone else seems absolutely delighted with theirs. I've had mine since April 2014 and have done about 15000 miles on it, with an average of 117mpg. Running costs are laughably small, particularly compared to the old Jag XKR V8 I ran before it ;)

Erm, good luck then  I'd never buy a second hand car without test driving it! Thankfully they're pretty bullet proof. Is it from a genuine Vauxhall Ampera dealer or someone else? You'll need to make sure it's had the couple of recalls done etc. Have you had a look at the history? How many mpg has it done since new, as this will tell you how much/often it's been charged?
Not trying to worry you ;) I'm sure it'll be fine, I just like to know these things before parting with money...

Agreed
Life time mpg was 82 mpg - so probably used on engine more than normal?
Network q dealer - but not Ampera specialist
Hope it's not an oops- only paid deposit at moment

A normal Network Q dealer can't service it or check it so is strongly suggest you try and get them to get it checked over by an Ampera dealer before you pay for the rest of it...

Lookers in Birmingham (Star City) are Ampera dealers, and they have done the work on my car. Seem pretty clued up on Amperas there, they have my confidence.

There's always been a couple of Amperas waiting work when I have been, so I guess their Ampera techs are getting very familiar with them.

Hi @Ozparissky, the OLEV grant has changed a bit and as you say British Gas no longer participate in the scheme - probably because they can't make enough out of the new scheme although maybe that's me being cynical. You can still get a grant at the moment for a home installation though and from memory it costs £95 for a 3kW or £195 for a 7kW charge unit. I think the charge rate on the Ampera will be the same either way but I'm sure someone else can confirm that, the only advantage with he 7kW unit is future proofing for if you get a vehicle with a more powerful onboard charger in the future.

In my case I used the OLEV grant to get a 3kW charger fitted for my Prius Plug-In with British Gas and it turned out to be a nightmare. I've since replaced the charge master unit with a 7kW Rolec one which I bought myself and got an electrician to fit. This has resulted in a much neater installation in my view because he didn't go for the absolute shortest cable run but used higher spec cable and took a neater route. I guess the disadvantage of using the grant is it's all done to a price!. With the new Rolec unit I also went for a socketed charger rather than a tethered lead so I can replace the lead without needing to call an electrician back in. It's a bit more expensive but adds flexibility and should anyone call who needs the US type plug, I've got a lead!

Ozparissky, welcome to the forum. I did one better than you, at least you saw your Ampera. I had set my mind on one and had been looking for nearly two weeks when a white Positiv 2014 (14 reg) with just 4,700 miles was advertised by Pentagon Vauxhall Parkway in Sheffield, the advert stated, "just in, awaiting preparation" with no actual picture of the car. It was advertised at £15,995. I phoned them straight away and purchased it over the phone. The first time I saw the car was when I collected it the following Saturday. I was, and still am over the moon with it to be honest, mine was on 141 mpg lifetime when purchased, I've done 1,600 miles in it now since purchase and its up to 156 mpg lifetime. One thing I found a bit confusing was the charging network and all the different cards required, but with a bit of research and help from the guys on here all was well. Regarding home chargers, I soon got fed-up with charging via the EVES brick every night and had a Rolec 32 amp tethered unit fitted at just £10 more than the 16amp unit. I have had no problems whatsoever with the Rolec charger and it comes with a separate display box that shows how much KwH and is totally separate from the household electricity use. Mine uses 12.7 KwH from empty charge to full. I've not had any service work done yet, so can't be of any help on that front, but living in Tamworth my first choice would be Star City, failing that the Leicester Ampera specialist.

Thx so I'm not alone re no test drive but I did know what the car was like from the test drive the day before - awesome. So hopefully this one will be ok - touch wood. You had a great deal on your car. Will look into chargers - you recommend the 32amp charger ? Thought Ampera can only use 16amp. Collect mine on Saturday can't wait- can only play at weekends as it's going to be the wife's commuter. Was looking at the polar charger but will revisit Rolec - thx for heads up

Welcome to the wonderful world of Ampera ownership. 3 years and 40,000 miles in I still love getting in and driving the car - the novelty of powering away in silence never fades for me. I've got the Pod Point 32 amp home charger and been very happy with it. I paid the extra £75 over the free one and worth every penny.

Lookers B'ham serviced mine the other week. I chose them over Greenhouse Telford (who supplied the car) on price. Second year service of £220 V's 270 (ish?). I did have to haggle with them over it though.

Only minor niggle was it took longer to have the car 'washed and vac'd' than the service itself. They seemed eager to fit parts under warranty (rear camera) and overall I was happy.

Oh, parking is a mare though - I just left mine by the inspection bays and went inside to book it in.

Thx all - I'm getting excited re Saturday pick up. Any recommendations for servicing closer to Northants?

Need to book a home charger sooner rather than later - the only socket I have is hanging off the wall in a wet garage / carport hmmmmm. It is ip65 I think or whatever the code is for waterproof but does run a freezer as well- so not ideal.

Any idea on the lead time for an install of a home charger are there different makes installed faster than others? Learnt more about the Ampera in this forum than from Vauxhall by a clear mile and then some -thx again Just hope I haven't bought a duff one - fingers and other things crossed - gulp

Think that MK of Peterborough might be your closest dealers to Northants.

York ward rowlett in Wellingborough is an ampera dealer and service agent. That's where I bought mine and they seemed to be selling a lot at the time.
