I am due to collect my fist EV on Friday ( Leaf) one of its first jobs will be to take us from Stockport to Newcastle upon Tyne, I looked on ZAP MAP and found a rapid charger at Ikea in Leeds just on the M62 but it said warring this charger is connected but not working ? the next charger on route is Weatherby but again it said charger connected but not working, the next would be Richmond but that will be out of range for us.we are planning to travel at night due to work commitments and concerned we wont get there. any advice gratefully received also is this the normal, chargers not working ?
Thanks in advance

@Morky99 something like 20% of rapid chargers are not working at any one time and some of the fast charge networks are very unreliable. Unfortunately, we are all early adopters and it's come with the territory
@Morky99 There are many wise heads on this forum whose advice I followed while deciding if the Leaf was viable for me. One of the things that is continually said is to have a plan B. Work out (whilst in the comfort of home) which chargers you would like to use and then what is the alternative if those are not available. Yes we do have to contend with charger malfunctions but things are improving. Even where chargers are not doubled the service areas will usually allow you to use the service access road to the opposite side of the motorway if their charger is inoperable.

In the 5 months I have been leafing the charge network has noticeably improved. I used to visit the North East from Sussex and my chosen route by ICE was M11, A1. This was not available 6 months ago for the Leaf as only M1 service areas were "electrified". When planning journeys I started thinking about not what my normal route would be but what my normal EV route would be.

I'm not sure about your planned trip but you need to cross the Pennines at some point. Most people regard the M62 as a trouble spot for pure EV motoring at the moment. Is there any merit for you to keep to the West coast until Kendal and then cross at a narrower point?

Even so you will find that hills eat into the range. Try it out in the Peaks when you have a full charge but stay close enough to home the first time.

It sounds like wetherby is fully back on line now, but also that it seems to be a bit of a hotbed of tension!!!

Make sure you've got an ecotricity card already?

Enjoy your journey, it's fun to talk to people at charge points...

I'll have a couple of pints of that stuff please. Must be good gear!
Plugshare is a good app. Users have to opportunity of leaving feedback which can give you a good idea of whether the charger is working.
I've never had a problem with Leeds IKEA chargers being offline, but they are very pup l popular so be prepared for a wait. Also on weekends the car park gets chocka, so you often have to queue to get into the car park then compete with ICE for the EV charging bays.
