For some reason, the Tomtom POI's no longer include EV charging stations. I guessed that they now want to charge for that information, but I can't even see how to download a paid for version. Has anyone got an offical or 'unofficial' way of doing this?

Yup its quite easy if you don't mind a little light hacking with rlink explorer and knowing where to plop your poi file.

Here are some links you might appreciate.

CLONE YOUR SD. https://www.speakev.com/threads/free-europe-maps-for-r-link.15780/

INJECT CUSTOM POIs http://myrenaultzoe.com/index.php/topic/rlink-charging-locations-data-set/page/2/

I used to create custom POI packs, haven't for some time now though, latest you'll probably find from are from 2017. Worth extracting them though as I created custom icons for charger speeds etc. I guess if I can find time I could do one last 2019 extract of posts and relevant data from NCR (one of the sources that ZapMap uses).

Thanks Sandy

I've made a duplicate card following your instructions, but don't think there's much point in adding 3 year old data to it. If you could provide instructions how you process the government data into Tomtom data, I'm sure one of us could manage it.

What I did was take the freely available NCR dataset. Deelete the columns before Latitude.

then use columns;

Latitude
Longitude
poi name
address
post code
category
description
speed

Worth extracting my POI data too so you can scrape the different coloured icons.

Good luck. You could if feeling generous share the new POI pack on here for others to benefit from. (y)

Thanks Sandy,

Oh, of course, if I manage it, I will share it.

Which data set format should I download then? If I try to download in XML here:

my computer locks up and has to be reset with the reset button! :)

Edit: Okay, seems to work in Excel.

I'm looking for the program you mention Sandy: 'Extra POI Editor'

Everywhere I look says it has been discontinued.

I tried my memory card back in the Fluence today. Now, the only charge point it knows about is my home. It sounds like it must record this in a different file to the electric_vehicle_station.ov2 file which I replaced.

I've just tried another POI generator: https://www.gps-data-team.com/convert/poiedit.php?file=NewPOIfile No idea if it works yet, as Fluence is garaged some miles away.
It didn't work. Still strangely has two places I've charged though. Can't for the life of me see what file it records those in. Maybe on the car itself somewhere?

Just in case you guys did not see me mention it elsewhere, I finally got this working today. I updated the Carminat operating system, and downloaded a British(!) poi file of charge points from here https://www.goingelectric.de/stromtankstellen/poi/

(You need to register with them before you can download.) Then I copied the file onto my memory card and renamed it 'electric_vehicle_station.ov2', and allowed the Carminat to reboot with the new card contents.

I don't think they have all the Source London chargers, so I'm still working on getting the UK data converted.

I recently downloaded a program called POIBase. https://www.poibase.com/en/

You can use this to convert up to 5000 POI's into an OV2 file. I have compressed the UK data by removing a lot of Northern Ireland & Scotland charge points, though I'm surprised to see there are still a lot on the map.

My OV2 file is called 13 Amp and Type 2 Charge Points and is publicly available on that site, if you want to play with it. Even this is not up to date, as it does not have the ones in Comyn Road, Battersea which I used recently.
