Check Rear Seats ?

9844 Views 17 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Nick Heenan
When switching off my wife's new 4+ and opening the door we get a "Check Rear Seats" warning. I'm assuming this is because the Easy access function is moving the seat backwards but we didn't get this on our previous Niro hybrid FE which also had the easy access function.
Disabling the Easy Access doesn't appear to prevent the warning coming up though.

Can anyone please confirm this is normal and not a "real" warning about the rear seats themselves?

Many thanks
Dave

Have the seats been folded and perhaps not clicked back fully in place? Might be something as daft as that.

I’ve had it in my 4 + a couple of times couldn’t see any reason, nobody has been in the back yet.
I am guessing that this is a warning message to remind people to not forget their (sleeping) kids in the rear seats. Not sure how it works, apparently there are ultrasonic sensors to detect rear passengers. This warning can be turned off in the settings.
The rear occupancy alert can be turned off in the settings. It's to ensure you don't leave anyone in the back.
are the rear seat belts fastened?
No Why?
just thought if they were, that would trigger a warning.
I've never seen the warning come up on my car.
Thanks all for replies so far.

Not sure if the 4+ e-niro has this feature but will check, although the warning looks the same there is no "OK" option and no one was in the rear.

I've tried both fastened and not and no difference. Also checked the electrical connector to the seat base in the boot and all looked fine. And checked seat backs are fully locked in place
I'm 99% sure it's to do with the Easy Access because it only triggers as you open the drivers door and the seat starts moving back but it doesn't happen all the time. It may be linked to if the rear door has been opened or not though - I need to test. Strange though that disabling Easy Access didn't seem to stop the warning.
We've only had the car a week so I wonder if it may also be down to software version (it was fully updated including latest infotainment "purple" versions - Anyone with a recent car getting the same message aaprt from just Bill the Kid and us ?

Do you have Easy Access enabled ?
SOLVED :D
Just tried lots of options and found that it's not directly connected to Easy Access although is triggered by the drivers door opening but only if -
  • Rear Seat Occupancy Warning in Settings - Convenience is enabled
AND
  • A rear door has been opened
Locking the car afterwards resets the warning so it will only occur again if a rear door is opened again.

There is no Ultrasonic detection on the E-Niro 4+ it's just a normal led light fitting in the roof

Completely missed the setting option so now disabled. Don't even believe it's in the manual either (perhaps no surprise ;))

Thanks to all for pointing me in the right direction.:)

Have the same issue on my new, 2 days old, Niro 3, so the above was most helpful. Thank you.
AND
  • A rear door has been opened
I'm not sure this is a condition to be met. I have had the warning several times without opening a rear door, unless it means a rear door opened not just in the moment of powering off the car, but at any time since the car started.

I thought it was triggered by detecting some weight in the seats, like shopping bags, baby seat, etc.

Yes, thats my experience. I've had the warning with just a jumper being left on the rear seats. I assumed a (sensitive) weight trigger.
In which case I will check. I had opened the rear door and placed a jacket on the rear seat before getting in and starting. I will see what happens the next time I use my car.
I noticed that I have a setting in my Convenience menu which does not appear in the owner's manual. My car is set to Spanish, but it should translate to "Rear passenger warning", so I guess disabling this will cause the message to go away. And in my case, as I have a car seat installed, it's always triggering every time I power off the car.

... or indeed left ANYTHING on the back seat. Seems to be pressure sensitive (like the fasten seat belt warnings)
