Just heard back from Cobham services. They're getting rapid chargers. A week ago they said within 6 weeks. Note follows

Hi Nigel,

Please find listed below the EV chargers that are being installed into our sites;

Blackburn with Darwen – 1x AC/DC charger

Cullompton – 1 x AC/DC charger

Cobham – 1 x AC/DC charger and 1 x CCS charger

Beaconsfield – 1 x AC/DC charger and 1 x CCS charger

Cambridge – 1 x AC/DC charger and 1 x CCS charger

Peterborough – 1 x AC/DC charger and 1 x CCS charger TBC

Baldock - 1 x AC/DC charger and 1 x CCS charger TBC

For more information on the AC/DC charger see the below link:

What fantastic news!
Way to go :)
Just double checking, are these Ecotricity or Chargemaster? Or both?

I'm guessing from the link that they're Ecotricity. This is brilliant news. I'm getting my Leaf in a couple of weeks and was thinking how much easier things would be for me if they put rapid chargers in at Beaconsfield and Cobham. Seems the gods are with me!

I got the same reply a week ago. It will make a big difference to us EV owners down the A3, which is an entirely charge free road all the way to Portsmouth!

I had hoped so :) just want to check though before I get excited about free to use charging. Not a major fan of giving Chargemaster a monthly fee to hopefully use the posts enough to justify it!

This continuation of the rapid charger roll out is really encouraging. Soon they will be needing to install a second one at popular locations! Although it seems we've been waiting a while, in the grand scheme of things the infrastructure has been installed damn quickly. Good on Ecotricity and Nissan/Renault

I'm pleased about the Cambridge one. That's about 70 miles form Southend so will make the A1 more viable. We drive to the Manchester/Burnley area reasonably regularly and that's a much more pleasant route than the M1/M6. It also makes seeing my sister in St. Ives trivially easy.

Xtra MSA Group inform me that they are awaiting parts for their new rapid charger at Cobham Services M25. It is now looking like an early June installation.

Thanks for the info. Looks like it's taking longer than expected but it wouldn't surprise me that part of the holdup could be to get the NEW/FIXED parts for the rapids rather than install the unreliable old parts?

Im glad to see this has changed as in december they had no plans :)

Thank you for your email regarding Cobham Services. Unfortunately we do not have any plans to install Electric vehicle charging facilities at our Cobham site. We apologise if this causes you any inconvenience with the lack of facilities.

Kind Regards,

Extra MSA Group

Cool.

A colleague says that on wednesday last week the bays were painted but no chargers.
He will swing by on the way home and see if they are now in and live

I popped in on Saturday, both were installed and live and responded to my card. I did not actually charge because I didn't need to but they responded in the usual way. I plan to use them on Thursday.

Interesting, the holster for the Chademo gun looks much better, the latch release/lever trigger thin shouldn't get damaged so easily. Is that a tri standard unit?
