Hi All

Posting this as I'm not sure how many people are aware of increases in Benefit in Kind for the all company cars.

For the GOLF GTE specifically Benefit in kind will be as follow over the coming years:

2017/18 = £1,155 2018/19 £1668 2019/20 £2,053 (all values shown for the full year).

So to put that into context, your lease will go up by approx £40 a month each tax year.

Hope that makes, thought useful to share.

The BIK rate drops to 2% in 2020-21 .. I might skip the EV Co Car for a couple of years as the tax will have tripled by 2020. Crazy policy.

I have just switched to a gte from a company van. Van rate is a flat rate this year of bik £3600. So already quids in this year. 2018/2019 will be roughly the same as the van and in 2019/2020 i will be paying 16% bik. Over the 3 years i will be on a par with the van and i am well happy with that. I have a decent car that i can ferry the kids around in. Interesting 2% in 2020/2021 is that on pure electrics or hybrids too. Bound to change though seems too good.

This is ancient news. The BIKs for ULEVs have been set at 9/13/16% for ages. The 2% for 2020-21 TY rate only applies to BEVs or to PHEVs with at least 150m miles of range.

Your lease won’t change, but the amount of tax you pay will.

To be honest if people don’t know this then they don’t do enough research. It’s not as though it’s been sprung on us out of the blue and the info has been out there

I paid 5% when I got the car initially. Then 7 now 9 and 13 from April. Still a decent rate.

It’s understandable they’ve added the differing electric bands as some of these have been developed as a company car fiddle IMO anyway.

I'd still like VW to do a PHEV with an Ampera/i3REX/LondonNewTaxi job type range extender.

Would get my £, especially if it didn't have a daft BIK.
I know it wouldn't/shouldn't be as low as for a BEV.

I noticed this and it sucks! However I’ve gone from a D2 Volvo V40 to a GTE and halved my car tax for this year so still quids in, and the car is loads better too (although I think the volvo seats were a bit more comfy!)
