Confused about heat pump and auxiliary cabin heating

I am confused about whether my I3 had a heat pump or not (2019 120Ah UK). When I switch the car off I get the option to start auxiliary cabin heating and it works, but when I query the car with the bimmer.works decoder it does not list it as having a heat pump (4T9). Does it have a heat pump or not ?

Not if it says it doesn’t have one.
Aux cabin heating and having a heat pump are not the same.
Thanks, the one I have is via ONTO but I am trying to spec one to buy and make sure I get the options I need. Its rather unfortunate to have a function called auxiliary cabin heating which is not the same as an expensive option called Auxiliary cabin heating system.
Yes and it is crazy that (a) BMW charges so much for this Heat Pump option in the UK, and (b) does not fit it as standard anyway.

In the USA it was a $100 option and then became standard I think in 2019.

Blame the £/Euro exchange rate since 2016 for that I guess.

I specified this option (despite the ridiculous cost) because, theoretically, it added range (miles) across quite a large range of ambient temperatures typical in the UK. Thought I might as well get the maximum range possible from a 120ah given that REX was no longer an option. Of course it is impossible to say what benefit I am actually getting in practice because I'll never know what range I'd have got without it!

I did notice, when I was going to buy an i3, that most of the ex-Press demo cars that BMW were selling through Park Lane and others had been specified with the Heat Pump option - so BMW UK must have thought it made a real world range difference that would look good in press reviews.

You are probably looking at a benefit of 5-15 miles on a full charge with a Heat Pump versus without depending on ambient temperature. Whether that is 'worthwhile' depends on the individual I guess.

Do you still have the car? I think if you open the frunk and remove the 2 side covers (one left one right, very easy don't think you need tools) If the car is fitted with heat pump option I think you will see 2 coolant bottles one either side with green or pink coolant in them.
I might be wrong on this, I have a 19MY car with heat pump so I can look if you want to compare.

I can make it much easier for OP and confirm that the ONTO i3 Fleet aren't specced with the heat pump. It took a bit of work to get them to confirm this, but when I finally asked the right person it was confirmed they aren't equipped with it.
That useful to know, my current car works well with sufficent winter range for my use so it looks like the heat pump is an option I don't really need.
