Im driving from Hertfordshire to Nottingham (Gedling) on Saturday. Does anyone have any tips for good Fast charge locations (not 7KW). Im hoping to find some big grid serve locations or off-motorway spots that are not used so much.
Many Thanks

What EV? What range does your car have from 100%? It can only be 120 miles max to Nottingham. Two very large hubs are en route anyway. Go via Milton Keynes and you have a Rapid charger on every street corner as they cornered the market for all grant funds to instal chargers years ago. Or divert slightly to J1 on the M6 to use the excellent Gridserve hub at Rugby. Check with the ABRP app ( A Better Route Planner ) for details of those hubs.
There seem to be about 50 rapids in and around Nottingham. Would that work?
Most of the services along the M1 have chargers, MK and Moto Services Rugby have large hubs. Moto Services would be a good place to stop of you need to charge on the way there or back.
Remember to take your “big coat” as well for that hike up-north

There's a pair of Osprey rapid units just off M1 J20 at Lutterworth.

BTW, a 'fast' charging point is indeed 7kW ! I presume you're actually looking for rapid units.
Cheers for all the info. Super helpful.

Leicester Forest South which Is on his route have had their two chargers shrouded in a tarpaulin for months now. MSAs are a disaster.

No they aren't, they were a disaster when Ecotricity were running the charging, until Gridserve came along around 60% didn't even have CCS, the reason the chargers have been turned off at Leceister is because the services are going to do there own thing.

People forget how bad things were just a few years ago.

Yes they are. One or two chargers at an MSA is ridiculous. I drive Leeds to Oxford return weekly and I don't ever these days use an MSA, there are plenty of off motorway options which are just as convenient. However, I often out of interest check the status of a charge point as I pass and they are invariably in use. I also go back to the Ecotricity days and it was about the same then because there was less demand.
If you can make it to Nottingham (J25) on one charge then head to Lidl Trowell Road (NG8 2DH). There are 5 brand new BP 50kW units that are never busy on side of the road (there is also a 50kW in Lidl carpark). So you can pop into Lidl for food and drink or there is a Papa John's pizza in the row of shops.
Then just continue round the ring road to your destination.
Great info. Cheers. Will take a look.
