I've been checking out features of my e-Niro today, and I have to say that I am somewhat disappointed.

I have discovered that the "find a charging station" feature, pretty much a necessity in an EV I would have thought, is in fact useless.

The nearest station is shown as being several miles away in the next town.... none of the nearby chargers, there are around 6 within 2 miles, are listed or shown on the map.

Two of these chargers have been installed for over 2 years....so how old is the Data? Is this likely to be the case with the speed safety camera database also?

This is totally unacceptable on a new (now £40k since grant demise) car.

Is there any way of finding out the release date of the mapping software? it is clearly well out of date.

I would be interested to hear from other e-Niro owners on this topic and whether anyone has a more recent version.

Yes, I know there are apps for charger location, but not everyone has a smartphone or wants to use apps....why would you, when the functionality is supposed to be built into the car.

My initial enthusiasm for this car is waning somewhat after only 3 weeks of ownership due to many reasons.

Do you have the pink/purple head unit software with user profiles? If not, you can update it to get newer maps and I believe better "find a charger" functionality.

Check this thread.

Yes, I have the purple screen, I updated the software last week.

You have to click on the Live data thingy. I can’t remember exactly what it’s called but have a look you should find it. Then it works a lot better regarding finding charge stations (though I never would use it anyway Zap Map is better) Peter

Thanks for that info, I'll give it a try tomorrow to see if it makes any difference.

As @prawlin says. But first you have to wait for the car to connect (there should be a pop-up message telling you "live services are connected"), and then click again "Search for charging stations". It will load the fixed (outdated list) first, so in the top-left corner there should now be a new button "Live". That should take you to the latest list available in TomTom map data.

OK perhaps this is a silly question, I'm a newbie at this stuff, but do you need a smart phone to use these live services or is the car automatically connected itself?

The car is connected itself. No phone needed. Peter

Personally, I’d never rely on even the live car data and just use ZapMap / PlugShare / WattsUp / individual network apps.

New chargers are being added so often that even ZapMap is not always up-to-date, let alone systems in cars.

I agree. It's by far the car's worst feature.

Thanks for the heads-up. (y)

Yes, I've sorted it now thanks to both of you for your assistance, many more chargers are listed now. Faith with the car restored a little now!

I don’t know if I’m being a bit dense here but when I go to the charge stations list in the EV screen it is the fixed list but if I go back to the main screen then to Live services > charging stations it refreshes with a more up to date list. The list on the EV screen doesn’t change though.

I would like the list on the EV screen to show Live services too but it doesn’t appear to.

Is that just the way it is or am I doing something wrong?

I think that’s just the way it is. Shame, as my 10 year old Leaf still dials home to download new charger info every time the battery gets low! And it will even add a charger to the map any time you plug in somewhere.
