If our sole objective in going to the Ecotricity site is to count the 'reds' - then that is a travesty. There more important things in life than trying of fault organisations. I really don't think that hiding the 'reds' was in anyway an objective. The reality was that they were cleaning up the interface to handle the even larger number of installations! What pleased me about Ecotricity was that I could see that they now had 108 installations and now had presence in Scotland and N.Ireland!
For me the progress that Ecotricity has made has been huge and the 'teething problem' have to be seen in context on new technologies in exposed locations!
The Ecotricity IS BRILLIANT! The deserve our fullest support AND CUSTOM!

I rather think we have been here before? Every aspect of the EV infrastructure is incoherent. The distribution of charge points has never been based on a logical, or physical architecture - with performance and reliability that would have allowed a 'design authority' to demonstrate its coherence?
As I understand it CYC has developed certain APIs and I suspect these are used by other network and charge point operators.
However, I suspect there is a 'little England' mentality here and from what I read the real work, in ensuring inter-operability, is being done under the auspices of the European Commission. I don't know which of the UK players are involved in European Standardisation projects - it gets very expensive to maintain representation in such fora, but that is the price you have to be willing to pay.
Its OK to promote OCM, but in the end its like all open source initiatives, they get crushed - is UNIX still out there?
It could be that the charging infrastructure that we see today will eventually be crushed, absorbed, bought out. Established European industrials will dominate all markets within 5 years - for sure. Charge Master Pod Point and CYC are simply trying to hype their market value and let the Directors retire to the Bahamas!
