In that period between waking and being awake this idea for a road sign came to me. I'd like to know what you think? Should I send it to OLEV (I don't know what the road sign department would be). Please excuse the drawing, art was never my forte and I no longer have my TD tools.

I've gone for simplicity, so I'm not going to include an explanation. Can you tell what each type is? (the circles should be in a line. I said art wasn't my forte) (yes they are circles:oops:
If enough think it's worth it I'll get my grandaughter (who's art is amazing) to do me a proper copy before I send it off)

Several years ago I wondered why there were not signs on the motorway to say that there were Tesla charging points in a given place (like there are signs telling you the next services is shell, mcds, etc)

I realised that any car that can use the Tesla supercharger already knows that they are there.

What is needed is an open API across all charge networks to display current availability on screen in all cars. Of course, that would require all cars to have data connectivity, but that's not far off happening anyway.

I've thought of an addition. Instead of the words 'Electric Car Chargers' a charger symbol could be used. I'm going for something you can see and understand at 70 mph.

Some MSA in the UK (quite a few) have an Ecotricity symbol. Unfortunately not that helpful as at least one MSA has it that doesn't have any chargers. I think they were planned, but the electricity supply wasn't good enough.

Saw something similar the other day but these seem to be reserved for small VW hatchbacks only?

Bu seriously to make signage really useful we would need to know the number of available, or soon to become available points for each of the respective standards (Tesla, CCS, Chademo, AC). Colour alone wouldn't necessarily help some drivers.

There should be sufficient chargers at all major services so that the chances of having to wait more than 10 mins to commence charging is very slim.

In the meantime, real time availability for your particular need is perhaps better provided via some sort of app and availability of charging of any type signed by a big E or equivalent.

So there are 2 cyan chargers, 2 green chargers, 1 magenta charger, 12 navy chargers and 18 purple chargers, right?
Yep, and there is meaning in that. The circles could be any colour. (they're just the Sharpie I picked up at the time)

Only one clue: the 12 and 18 have meaning, but it may be a little obscure. I know new users won't have a clue, but like all new technology there will be an explanation.

2 chargers for Turquise ID.3s, 2 for green ones, one for red ones, 12 for black ones, white EVs are invisible & don't count? :D

Seriously, I'd like to see something telling me Tesla/CCS/ChaDemo/AC44kW, and maybe the number in the middle could be adjusted dynamically in real time to show how many free chargers there are? That section could be a low-power LCD screen, powered by small solar-panel at top of sign + comms linked using MQTT to the server at the MSA, which by now should damn well know how many EVs are using what slot.

Ok,
'12' = French kids on Renault Twizzy/electric quad-bike/similar non-cars, follow the black circles:
'18' = anyone old enough to drink & drive, follow the dark blue circles:
Pink circle = 1 yr old girls on electric scooters this way for a topup please:
Blue circle = 2 year old boys on electric scooters this way please:
Green circle = 2 year old gender-fluid kids this way please:
Close at all ??? :)

I'm not sure what it's trying to show, but it means nothing to me, and I was staring at it so intently, I've just crashed into the Stobart lorry I was hypermiling behind.

I need to know price, number, connector type, speed and availability. And possibly brand. Good luck showing all of those on a road sign!

One revision required. Road sign convention is that circles give orders, triangles give warnings and rectangles give information.
Didn’t know that, but makes sense!
