French utility ENGIE has today announced its acquisition of UK electric vehicle (EV) charging firm ChargePoint Services for an undisclosed sum, a move it said will help the and engineering giant "scale" its ambitions in the fast-growing EV market.

The buyout sees ENGIE take control of ChargePoint Service's 900 public and workplace EV charge points, which operate under the GeniePoint network, as well as its 20,000-strong customer base and cloud-based data and control platform.

In the UK, ENGIE has been appointed by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to install 88 rapid charge points throughout the region. ENGIE will install, own and operate the charge points for at least 10 years.​
