EO Charging. Utterly disgraceful service.

EO Mini Pro 2 installed 26.11.20.

Sorry this is a long post.

Nothing but problems and now on day 5 of the unit not working.

Here is the story so far.
  • Installed on 26.12.20 but took a long time to get setup on my app (android Pixel 4 phone). 80% through setting up on the app it freezes. Engineer tried as well with the same issue. Eventually after engineer called for assistance, it worked.
  • 2 weeks later engineer called out again as car will not charge. Getting a red and purple flashing light. Also app doesnt connect to the Mini Pro 2 unit, saying its off line. Eventually gets it working after messing around in the unit.
  • Since install the unit will occasionally not charge the car, which results in plugging the car in, disconnecting, plugging in again, turning the mains off/on for the unit and eventually i get a green light.
  • Sometimes i get the red/purple flashing lights. Sometimes with a green light it just doesn't charge, sometimes the app says a car isnt plugged in (even though it is and the light is green).
  • On friday i plugged the car in, app was fine and the unit showed a green light. Saturday evening i checked and the car hadnt charged overnight. The app was now saying the unit was off line. So i re did the wifi settings in the app but it froze 80% through. With a 100mile round trip needed for Sunday morning i called EO. After resetting the unit the car started charging but whilst on the phone i get the re/purple lights again. EO couldnt get an emergency engineer so took my details and was told an engineer will message Sunday to arrange an appt. Took car to rapid charger.
  • Sunday and no contact from EO.
  • Monday morning I called back. EO claim i have too much power coming into my house or too many appliances are on in the house or my wifi isnt good enough!!!! Was told technical will be in touch to sort during the day.
  • Monday evening and no contact from EO, so rang back. Told to call back Tuesday morning at 9am.
  • Rang this morning (Tuesday). Whole story again and was told technical will definitely call me later today.
  • Hear nothing all day, so ring back AGAIN and raise a complaint. Told i will get a call tomorrow around 4pm.

Currently the EO is offline, plugging in the car and it wont charge.

Utter shambles, feel like ripping the install out and selling it.
Rant over🤬

is it tethered? if not, have you tried a different cable?

Does the manual say what the red/purple light means?
Do they have a social media presence? A polite but robust summary of their failings so far might get some action.

Not tethered. The car had a service 4 weeks ago and Kia checked the cable, all fine.
Red then purple flashes is (if i remember correctly) unit fault and earth fault.

I use LinkedIn and Instagram but for work and i would rather not.
How about getting in touch with Watchdog, I'm sure they'd like something connected with EV's as it's topical.

It sounds like an engineer visit is required, but realistically that isn't going to happen overnight. They will need to arrange for a contractor to visit.

It sounds like either a problem with the internet connection, a faulty unit or a unit that hasn't been installed quite right.

During setup, make sure you have good wifi for the EO unit but also make sure you have good mobile data signal - your phone needs to communicate with EO central whilst it's still connected to the EO Mini Pro that won't yet be online. I discovered this the hard way!

Not sure about that - we ended up doing the setup on my iPad (which has no SIM in it) because the process didn’t work on my iPhone 6S (apparently a known issue with that model). So it certainly wasn’t using the mobile network. In any case we have effectively no 4G signal at the house.

Interesting. It didn't work on my iPhone X because the iPhone didn't switch away from the EO's WiFI hotspot to my home WiFi fast enough for the EO software to be able to communicate with the servers (the timeout on the EO app was too short). When I tried with my Android phone with a 4G signal that works on my driveway, worked first time.

What annoyed me was the installers assertion that it was my home WiFi at fault for not having a strong enough signal - which was complete junk and they were clearly just trying to get away to their next job asap!
