EV ownership not going well so far :(

bought an ipace last week, beautiful car but so far out of half a dozen times trying to charge using the cable it only worked once.
other than that gets stuck on initialising.

it is charging now off a cable i borrored off a mate, so it would seem that my T2 charge cable is faulty

i phoned jaguar who kindly offered to book me in to check.............. in July.

they are hopefully going to contact me back, also contacted the seller.

am meant to be going on holiday with it on friday whilst I think it is the cable i am not 100% certain so am dubious about going and trusting i will be able to fast charge it incase i am wrong and its a car fault.

that is next on the list of things to do. no idea where the nearest is but will check zapmap i guess.

actualy there is one almost on the way home so guess i will try there.
thanks.
If the CCS fails, try putting light upward pressure on the connector during the initialisation until the charge starts.

Just show up one day and ask if you can plug into their socket using their cable to eliminate that again. Then buy a new cable from Screwfix. Most stores have next day collection.

thanks. I may do that but I would need the 11kwh one which is £220. call me tight but the car is under warranty so am hoping either the seller or Jag will give me a replacement. (also not 100% sure it is that yet tho hopefully it is it)
Not an IPace but when my EV was brand new my charge port was really tight, so I wasn't gully seating the cable into the port so it kept failing on 'initialising', try giving it some welly.

Edit- would also explain why your mates cable works as that would have worn down a bit through use so easier for you to insert fully.

thanks. it's a really good suggestion but the car whilst new to me has 40k on it. the cable is well used and I think I gave it the full beans after it initially didn't work

It will be worth your setting-up a PodPoint account and possibly an Electroverse account, ahead of actually using any public chargers. I also have Shell and BP accounts but have never used them. The first two cover all the public chargers in my area but it may be different where you are, so worth researching.

If you‘re considering a home EV charger, get a qualified local electrician along to do a survey to check out your options and costs, before you sign-up online for an installation via the big energy retailers. The latter will take your £1K order charge but not do an in-person site survey, so options and issues may not be clear until later.

Get your mate to check charging using your cable. If they have problems as well it's definitely the cable. Or give your approximate location here and see if there's another forum member near you and willing to try your cable.

Cables do fail. Not often, but it does happen.

we are doing that this afternoon before he goes home. i really hope it IS the cable as if it isnt then things get a bit more scary.

This outfit offers a comprehensive repair service for cables which might be a cheaper way forward if the cable does prove to be faulty.

bought an ipace
This may be the part when you went wrong. I've read a few stories and seen at least one survey of reliability by model and the sense I get is that the ipace doesn't have the usual EV reliability advantage.

The ratio of ££ spent on the car vs how reliable it is doesn't seem to be great for this model.

However best of luck, hopefully I'm wrong - or you're lucky - and you fix this issue and go on to have a great experience with it for years.

Over time and use it's not unusual for the small signal wire in the cable to give way. It's the usual fatigue failure from constant coiling. Often it starts with intermittent issues before it finally parts. I had a mate who repairs vacuum cleaners in his business. When a unit came in with a lack of power despite fuse checks the first thing he did was cut 6" off the cable at the 13amp plug end and refit the plug. 90% were then OK. So he would rub an oily rag over the machine, give it back, and charge them £20.

Yep, that's exactly how one of my cables failed.

I'd just go back to the sales person at the dealer. Tell them the cable is faulty - describe what transpired with your friend using said cable. Tell them you need it asap and they should get one ordered for you FoC via spares. Sometime you just need to get a bit nasty and not be so British about matters.

When I traded in the Mokka the Renault garage insisted that I gave them the original cable which came with the car otherwise they would charge me for a new one from Vauxhall which they would also do if the cable tested faulty. At Vauxhall prices I thought they could FRO but the cable had been looked after properly as well as being barely used (only 6 times).
One would think all garages selling S/H EVs would take the same approach.

well am home. I did my 1st ever CCS charging. it went.... ok. only 35kwh speed at a supposed 175kwh rapid charger but that could be because my car was at 65%
but Jesus Christ 85p per kWh. at that price I could buy vpower diesel!

still I know it works and it won't be a regular occurrence.
I will see what the sales people do at the garage. part of me thinks the best thing would be they given me £150 credit note and I buy a temp cable.
Incan the let jaguar take their sweet time over replacing my proper cable under warranty.

of course that would end up me being a cable in credit in the end... but like already noted I don't really want a 3rd party cable for my just bought Jag still under warranty. I need summary asap however. will see what happens tomorrow.
