Excite or Exclusive?

So what do you get for your extra 2 grand? My view:

Blind spot detection - never needed it in 30 years of driving
Rear cross traffic alert - same
+2.5% kerb weight - largely irrelevant - might cost 1 mile total range vs Excite
Extra filter on AC - extra service cost? Don't really notice much stink where I live.
Rain sensing wipers - have them on the 225xe but wouldn't miss them
Panoramic opening sunroof - cabin seems quite airy already, and steals a little headroom
Improved sound system - 6 speakers and '3D sound' - nice to have
Rear camera - like the one on the B250e - can live without it but would miss it
Heated vegan leather seats (driver electric adjust) - fabric seats without heaters are fine
Silver roof rails - meh
Electric folding mirrors - meh

For me there isn't an extra 2 grand of value in the Exclusive.

Your mileage may vary.

Solid white is the free colour and one which I regularly choose on my cars......

However there have been instances of rusting on white MG cars (including an ICE XS).

Some pics from one who posted on honestjohn, and whose claim was rejected by MG.

Some of them are a bit meh, but the rust at the rear suspension looks awful for a 7 month old car.

I can only imagine if @donald received such a vehicle - I'd certainly be rejecting it if it was my "10 year car".

Dacia got their arses handed to them with their early white cars rusting - MG better up their paint game if they want to 'do a KIA' over time (who made abysmal cars initially - like the Pride and the Shuma)

I've posted that already in another thread. The same guy who posted those pictures said other colours were also affected and there are claims active against MG.

I've heard it said that you'll never lose money on the "free" colour.
Error, on the e-Niro it was...........brown

I think that would be a hard resell, I wouldn't buy a used one unless it was cheap enough to get it wrapped in a nice colour and still cost me less than a nice colour one.

This maybe very true, but you have to like / live with the solid white.
It could be a lot worse, other manufacturers charge extra for solid white finish, can you believe that !.
I don’t think applies to vans though, given how many there are of them on our road’s !. Ha Ha !.
If you can afford the extra £2,000 it’s a no brainier to me.
Yep.... But the other way :p
I’m leaning towards a White Exclusive. I seem to drive a lot of country roads and the sides of the car can get marks from branches/twigs on them, even with a ceramic coating.

The solid white would be easy to get sorted out, whereas any of the Metallics will be a pain if they have to be repaired or touched up.

I have also chosen this option, I was really torn between the Dynamic Red or the light blue colour ?.
I know it is maybe to early to consider the resale value before we have taken delivery of course, it appears that ALL early first gen models will not have the pre - heat / pre - cooling facility.
If I was in the market for one of these cars a few years time, then I would be looking for the extras that an Exclusive offers to back fill / compensate for the lack of this facility.
My present car is a first gen VW that also missed out on the App for remote heat / cooling facility.
I can still set the “Delayed Charge” manually from the head unit, but not a phone App facility.
So, how have I found it :- Never had it, never missed it really.
If I wish to preheat from my drive, I just pop out to the car 10 mins before I leave and manually turn it on from inside of the car.
Same deal if I wish to pre-cool.
Not ideal I know, but it works all the same.
On a hot day like today when returning to the car, I would probably open the sun roof first to let out any excessive heat, then close the roof and hit the AC for 5 mins before driving away.
My only concern is finding a work around to be able to charge using “Timed” off - peak Eco 7 tariff.
This was on the Thai MG web site, appears somethings work with a "smart phone"
Would be very good if all MG Group updates were OTA (over the air) like Tesla

Work Order System on Smart Phone
  • Drive start system
  • Open air conditioning system
  • Lock - unlock the door
  • Travel Plan Travel Plan
  • System Find My Car /
  • Car status monitoring system

Went into a local MG dealership today.

Chap largely confirmed what Miles and others have mentioned re availability/deliveries.

No firm figures but expectation is the PCP will be around £1500-1800 customer deposit and ~£279/mth (APR and GMFV unknown) amortising at around £305/mth over 4 years.

Anyhoos I sat in an ICE Excite level model (no sunroof) - as a very tall relatively long-limbed guy (6'5" with 6'7" reach) I could get comfortable with the seat all the way back and the wheel all the way up. Headroom was a good 1cm or so clear between hair and roof so I expect the sunroof frame would annoy me.

I could sit behind myself fairly comfortably legwise but rear headroom is insufficient for me. Getting in and out front and rear is good. Sitting position is a decent height in keeping with the small SUV look.

The lack of a centre rear head restraint is a significant oversight and will likely make the car ineligible as a private hire (where locally at least EVs are a big thing).

Fabric seat material is a bit soft but would need a decent run to see if it offers enough support.

Boot is a great size and shape.

Overall if you are a tall freak leg-room is going to be adequate unless you are over 6'6" - if you are over 6'0" and have a long-body proportion, or over 6'4" beware the headroom (likely a cm or two less with Exclusive model).

A very practical family car - put your least favourite child in the middle rear seat though!

It's strange not to have a rear centre headrest, there are 3 x 3 point rear seat belts aren't there?

Yes there are 3 three-point belts. The outer rear seats have adjustable head restraints.

Front seatbelts are not height adjustable at the B-pillar either.
Perhaps the production models will have the middle headrest, it may be a type approval requirement these days?
It's not.

Current ICE ZS don't have one.

'Ineligible as a private hire' are there local or national rules for this? Does every fare paying seat have to have a head restraint?

I think the licencing of private cabs is done at the municipal level so will likely vary according to area.

In London, page 26 of 60 shows the requirements for seating

All passenger seats need a head restraint.

Looks like the Excite is 'leather style' interior .. not leather. website should show a side by side comparison

I don't think the Excite could be described as a leather style interior. The seats are good fabric seats - very comfortable - so much so that my wife nearly decided to go for the Excite to get the seats! The Exclusive has "vegan" leather seats, which look good.

Excite is fabric with large houndstooth style. Seats are comfy but lack lumbar support so watch if you have a dodgy back.

Pic is from an ICE - EV doesn't have a traditional handbrake ;)
