Just found out my 2016 Zoe is going to cost £800 for MOT and service. Not only that, my local dealer can't do it so I've got an 80 mile round trip to do twice as it can't be done in a day.
Anyone else had this? Is there any way to reduce the cost? Wish I'd known, I would have sold the car this year.

Yep. Just get the standard A or B service.

Then ask them to test the brake fluid. I would be amazed if they recommend the fluid be replaced.

MOT should be a fixed £30 or so.

£800 for MOT and service
<Picks himself up from floor> How can a brake fluid change be costing £600? I appreciate that electronic master cylinders require an additional tool but as good independent can do it for a lot less. As usual try to find a local HEVRA garage.

They claim it's for isolating the HV battery during the work.

If your anywhere near DSG Morecambe you could get it done somewhat cheaper.

I believe they have to bleed the electronic master cylinder by plugging the vehicle into a device that actuates the valves to do this.
Apparently this is the only way to do it, as this bit is located near some of the big HV bits they have to isolate the main HV (a job I did a fortnight ago wearing jeans an a t-shirt and lived to tell the tale).

If however you work for Renault you have to disconnect the 12v wait until the end of time for all of the electrons to drain wherever they go (I guess they use a big bucket for this), then don a bomb disposal suit with safety glasses a Lance and your trusty steed and sleigh the mighty HV interlock connector.

This uses ramp time and only one spotty geek at most Renault dealerships has endured the course pointing out how many ways this may kill him.

So I’m guessing they charge a premium for his services on account of all the danger money they pay him.

Joking apart Nissan charged me £165 the other day to change the pollen filter in my leaf and have a good look underneath with a torch.

They loosely refer to this as a “service”!

Look on the bright side we pay no fuel duty, or road tax!

My glass is still half full! 😉

Yeah, I have a dealer invoice, previous owner, for brake fluid change and pollen filter for almost £300! Seriously, that's about £15 in parts. Lol. That's why I will never set foot in the main dealer. Someone has to pay for those luxury car villages etc... Stick to local trusted mechanics.

Could always stick on the wife's marigolds, lol
Comically they are probably fine. Dielectric strength of most rubber is around 30kv/mm. As long as the gloves are only rubber and don't have any conductive contaminants then the numbers say they are more than fine.

Hmmm, I now want to go and test that. Experiment time :)
I don't have a 400v DC source kicking about though. Linking over 100 li-ion 18650's is going to be a pain, sigh. Time to find out if the B type RCD is good enough to protect me from DC shocks.
What's the worst that can happen !!

Thanks everyone. I'm in North Wales so not much choice with garages. The £800 quote includes a 10% discount by the way! I'll ask about testing the brake fluid but I'm seriously thinking this might be the push I need to trade this car in.

I am curious what makes up the £800. That would have to include a lot of "recommended" items.

There's a HEVRA accredited garage in Denbigh.
