Hi chaps!

Seriously considering purchasing an Ampera and have seen plenty 12 - 14 plates.
Obviously a 14 plate will give me an extra few years battery warranty.
Can you extend the battery warranty etc with Vauxhall???

Also, I have seen a few on autotrader etc but I haven’t seen one Ampera for sale on the Vauxhall
website or Network Q any reason for this or is it that there are so flew out there????

Many Thanks

I wouldn't pay for any warranty that Vauxhall had their name on!
AFAIK you cannot extend the battery warranty but why bother as the number of failures registered on this site after six odd years is to my knowledge just one and that was very early in its life and probably just a manufacturing defect.
No batteries are showing age related problems either and there is a car in the US that has over 400,000 miles on it with over 100,000 EV miles.

My car is a keeper and am I worried about the battery compared to losing a cam belt/head gasket/water pump/clutch plate etc on a conventional car? No.

The main reason there are very few for sale is how few there were in total to begin with. I’ve seen figures around 1350 but certainly less than 1500. Secondly there is nothing appropriate and sufficiently equivalent to replace it with, so we hang onto them.
Full BEV is the only way forward for us and until this year there has been nothing of interest to me anyway. Maybe the Kona 64kw could be but I’m not sure I want lots of torque steer which the the Ampera somehow avoids, so I’ll wait for my Model 3 and even then I might keep my Ampera in the family.
There are a couple of specialist second hand EV dealers you should find. I think Autocar has had quite a few listed.

I think the only difference is the sound system/satnav and no pretty lines on the reversing camera.

Motors.co.uk as above list a few at Vx dealers.

I bought mine from a VX dealer, they had two... Stourbridge motorhouse in the Midlands. Both the cars had the all important warranty stamps in the service book and were sensibly priced.

Give them a look on auto trader, might have something

I have read it and got it saved! A great post!

I am looking for a 13 or 14 plate and preferably an Electron.

Seen a few on autotrader but want to make sure they have been main dealer serviced.
Quick email to the seller, tell them to throw the service book in the scanner and send it your way. That's what I did with about 4 dealers, found one that was all in date and bought it the next morning

We have loved our 14 plate Electron since we got it 2 years ago from a VX dealer in Telford. I found it through Network Q but I don’t know why they are not still sold this way. There are several for sale on Autotrader from VX dealers. In terms of differences between Electron and Positiv, the HDD and SatNav in the Electron are not worth paying extra for, but in my view the Bose system definitely is worth having, so I’d recommend you try to find an Electron if possible.
I was at the CENEX LCV2018 event today with some real experts in the EV world. A common view is that GM made a big mistake in not persevering with the Ampera in the UK, as it was a very well thought out solution that has still not been bettered in any important respect. In my view there’s no better EV for the money, perhaps until the Model 3 is available on the 2nd hand market. If you find a good Ampera, you should buy it. You won’t be sorry.

Us Volt owners will now chime in with the typical - "make sure you also look for a Volt - it's the same car, different bumpers blah blah"... The Volt only came in top spec with the SatNav and Bose by the way.

Though admittedly there are far less of these than the Ampera, but 'historically' they have been slightly cheaper - though I think that is no longer the case.

It's quite shocking that the new Volt did not come to Europe in RHD form - it would compete very well (and beat) pretty much every PHEV/REEV on offer, it's a massive shame this is not happening.

There is an Ampera for sale, 2012 Electron priced low at £8995. Have look at the adverts section of this forum. Looks a lovely car owned by an enthusiast. Actually it’s my car. Message to Coxsy, feel free to contact me if you need more info, there are pictures of my car within the advert. Simon.

Previous post by Spiny "there are a few (6?) MY14's in the UK - probably ex Vauxhall preview cars supposedly single colour seats and light coloured consol. Use the Vin to confirm if you find one.
Apart from the seat/dash colour, is there anything else different about the MY14?

I hadn't realised that the MY14 went as far back as Oct 2013. It seems that someone forgot to re-tax this one.

GM's model year runs around their plant shutdown times from memory so after shutdown in 13 is 14 MY if that makes sense, Manual charge port door is the key difference for me, not sure what else is different
