Hi all,
I'm considering buying a pre-reg ID.4 which is about a £4k saving on RRP of a brand new one.
Only thing is, it's their in-showroom model so I know it's likely been sat there with low, potentially 0% SOC for quite a while.
Is there any easy way of checking what the SOH of the batteries are, either myself or asking the dealer to do a report?

Ask the dealer for sure, they should be able to get you a workshop readout I'd imagine, but you can also get a bit of a guide by using a cheap bluetooth OBDII dongle and an app called CarScanner. You will only get the reported SoH from the BMS on the car but its got to be better than nothing. I think you can also see the max/min cell voltages. You'll want to make sure they are all quite close. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to give the figures to look for.

I use one like this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-BLE-iPhone-iPad-Android/dp/B071D8SYXN/ - costs about £20-25.

If you are on an iPhone, make sure whichever one you get is BLE 4.0

EDIT: They should have also kept the battery at an acceptable level, so I would ask them what they've kept it it. The Skoda dealer we got ours from would charge their showroom cars periodically. If its been between 40-60% (upto 80%) then that's perfect.

I have seen showrooms with a charger in the showroom so would really expect them to keep the battery charged even if the car is not driven as cars are kept live in the showrooms as cars get sat in and opened closed numerous times daily.

I know when I looked at an EV6 the show room model had a charger going to the 12v battery so you could do all of that, but the main battery was showing 0% SOC, I'm guessing people having the heating/aircon on which doesn't use the 12v battery.

The problem you'll have is that

A : they're never going to give you an soh printout in the dealership. If it isn't good, you won't buy it. They'll hedge their bets you'll just buy it regardless.

B: they're never going to let you plug a cheap OBD2 dongle into a showroom vehicle before you've purchased it.

In lieu of anything else, I would have a look around the showroom and forecourt at any other ID models they have in, get in and press the brake, you will see what SoC they maintain their cars at. I'd be fairly surprised if they were at 0% because anyone getting on the car would immediately see a bunch of errors fly up. I suspect it's actually more likely they keep them all at or close to 100% which isn't great either.
From what I've seen on YouTube videos, I don't think the OBD11 dongle outputs give a sensible indication of SoH anyway, the only way to know is to test it.

Thanks all - some good advice in this thread. I'm going to hold on for a bit longer to see what happens with my new ID.4 but if I do go for a pre-reg one at least it gives me some ideas and things to check.
