Having variously rebuilt classics, serviced my own cars, and later used services of Porsche, Audi, Mercedes etc. I approached my 1st Tesla service (under my ownership) with a bit of, well, ... fear ! .

Would they 'care' about my car like I do ?
Would I get an eye watering bill, like anyone with 4+ year old Porsches (and apparently Ferrari), fears... where the service jock implies: "wanna play like a BSD's .. you gotta pay like them too .. ha ha". without explaining the details and options for that 'small oil leak' etc.

As an inquisitive, but not particularly wealthy engineer, I really want to know about what is going on with my car and be involved with decisions.

WoW I need not have worried ! - like the car, the brand - Tesla do things, well, .... simply better !

Jo at West Drayton kept me SO well informed during the whole week they had my car, I met Sam the technician before and after the service, who listened to me (!!!), answered all my questions and explained everything in super fine detail. Having been at Tesla for 3 years he not only had seen every possible 'issue' but knew the options to fix them, but he also 'fizzed' with enthusiasm for the brand and my car. It helps that Tesla are a both the manufacturers AND they fix them (unlike franchises). Tesla being a pretty flat organisation, he can call up the engineer who designed the system and discuss issues directly.

Icing on the cake - a very reasonable bill, THE most detailed report about my car and its systems (including photos eg of the cr8p in the air cooling system, before and after.) beautifully cleaned car ..... Oh and a P85+ loaner for a week. Refreshing !

Like you I have had surprisingly good support and response from Tesla Service over the past 3.5 yrs and they make all ICE service centres seem positively ancient and hostile in comparison.

I too have had really significant bills and problems with so called high-end car dealers when a warranty claim is needed or just the bare faced cheek of some of the prices. Ferrari and Porsche dealers expect you to just hand them the chequebook and if you complain then you get sneered at for not being worthy. BMW dealers seem to enjoy spanking wads of cash out of punters who walk in expecting to buy a windscreen wiper for halfrauds money and instead it’s a mysteriously high £75 per wiper (or something equally outrageous!) and a random £50 (or whatever) to clip it on for "Sir" .. whilst you sip a cappuccino thats oozed out of the machine in the customer waiting area...

I have no doubt that when a Model S is out of warranty that some parts will be relatively expensive, but at least Tesla offer 8 years unlimited miles warranty on the big bits I'm worried about.

BTW .. you do realise that the purpose of loaning you a P85+ was to make you order one. Were you tempted ?!?!!

Praise indeed. Do they do service packs or is it pay as you go?

I think your local BMW dealer is overcharging you, my local BMW only quoted me £55+vat to change the wiper blades. They even re-assured me that this was the 'standardised' price for BMW wiper blades, and because of the size of their dealer network this price was 'unbeatable'...I think they even offered to 'fit' them for 'free' as a gesture of how much they valued me as a customer, though I might have dreamt that bit as I was too busy contemplating if I should take up the their amazing offer on the wiper blades :ROFLMAO:

... !
Wow, quite a different experience than over here in the US. Here it was a 1 day thing, no updates until it was done and then "just" the usual stuff for $600. It came back clean and running well, but sounds like they had more time etc on your one.

My full experience is documented here:

I think @Mark Sanders is describing an out of warranty service and repair visit for his Roadster, not an annual service of a Model S.
