There is a free data plan option only 1GB valid for days but seem be able to add another do if plan is like mobile payg once 1GB used the second will appear.

Created an account via the cubic link from the vw app link. Then goto auto.cubictelecom.com scroll down paste goto new site part and login and there are 4 data plans with onthem being free.

Means i can use use car as a hotspot too.

Their data plans are quite expensive after the initial free trial expires. I believe you can achieve the same result of getting rid of the error message by setting up your phone as a hotspot & connecting via the car's wifi. I just ignore the "1" now & pretend the number of errors is no longer zero-based...

That was my thought but have 270 days or 3GB stacked up in account, ie seem to be able to top up several times. Just added another after posting.
Hmm... good tip! I'll never actually use the internet radio, but if getting the free data plan gives it just enough connectivity that it can connect and I don't get the error message anymore, then that's worth doing if I ever get my ID.3 back!
Thought I may as well get the free trial, but it doesn't give me the option. Have signed up for an account & added my car. I only have the 3 paid plans listed as options.

Are you on 2.1 software or an older version for this data pack to work? TIA

EDIT - Ignore me.....managed to get it to work (on 2.0) - thanks for the heads up on this free plan....good find!

It's this bit of the original post that you have to follow to find the free plan!:

Then goto auto.cubictelecom.com scroll down past 'go to new site' part and login and there are 4 data plans with one of them being free.

So - open a new browser window and start afresh, rather than going in through the app - you should find them on the 'old site' bit of that page - I think the free plan was second one down - it was certainly in the middle; not at the top of the list as I would have expected.....

Aha! Thanks, that will teach me to not read properly.

Have now managed to add 2 free trials to my account, one active and one pending. I used a disposable virtual card at checkout, just in case there's some sneaky re-use... (It didn't get charged, but you have to enter a card number)

Just signed up as well. Let's see what happens.
Got this set up on my ID.4 last night, thanks for the advice !
Thanks @mrsaffron237 - just got this sorted as well!!
I just ignore it, I might occasionally look at the number on the side of the screen to see if it is >1
Thanks, just signed up and have a few plans pending. If they close the free option it should mean I have a few booked in advance. Wouldn't want to pay just to clear that message so hope they auto renew

I have the free plan, but cannot see anywhere to add more than one, and I can't see any reference to 'go to new site'. How did you manage to add more than one free plan? I think that option's been removed now.

Think site may have been updated.

Yes, all urls at the old site now go to the main page directing you to login at the new VW or Audi site :-(
Is this data plan to use the 4g sim card that is built into the car?

If so, what does this actually do? What does it allow you to access? Can I for instance stream music via my Amazon account?

This is one part of the car that I can never seem to find any information or reviews.

Exactly that - no physical SIM, so if you want use the car's 4G for anything other than updates & traffic/nav, then you've got to sign up to their tame telecom supplier.

That won't help you stream natively on the car from Amazon though - there's no app on the car for that yet. You're similarly buggered with IOS/CarPlay if you're on that (can't speak for AA, though). The only way to stream Amazon Music I can see is to run it on your phone/tablet and bluetooth source (or direct connect) it.
So if I just use the inbuilt 4g for updates and say nav I don't need a dataplan?

What then would a data plan allow me to access?

Create a wifi hotspot from the car, internet radio thru car, plus any future apps they decide to add.

If you're going to use phone for any of this, then you don't need it. Before Cubic/VW updated the website, their was a "cheat" for the 1GB free plans that means you don't get the internet radio message on start very time - it's a really minor thing, other than that no real benefit.

It's disappointing, but nowhere near the end of the world, that there's no physical SIM slot, as 3 PAYG SIMs were excellent for this in the past in my Audis. Hey-ho.
