It does mention it in the article, though my brain was hurting a bit from using my rusty French!

Here it is: "A platform intended exclusively for electric vehicles is under construction at the Douai plant and, in 2021, the Zoe assembly will be moved there."

The Flins factory and its 2,000 employees threatened by the Renault savings plan

It had started its industrial career in the mid-1950s with the Dauphine, shifted to the 4L, then the Renault 5. The Flins plant (Yvelines) and its 2,000 employees is today targeted by a savings plan of 2 Billions of Euro's. It was announced on Friday during the presentation of the 2019 results, in the red for the first time in ten years. A performance review of 40 Renault industrial sites around the world is about to be launched. Flins has few assets to assert.

The failure of the Micra model, which Nissan had entrusted to him in 2014, is irreversible. The production of Zoe will also be withdrawn. A platform intended exclusively for electric vehicles is under construction at the Douai plant and, in 2021, the Zoe assembly will be moved there.

The electric model Zoe is disappointing

This transfer is good news for Douai, provided that the electrical market finally takes off. The sales curve remains sluggish for the moment. The Zoe, the only model sold in significant volumes, is a disappointment. In France, they peaked below 19,000 copies last year, compared to 17,000 in 2018. Worldwide, sales are barely three times higher. The city car's career should be revived with the release of the second generation of Zoe this fall. These volumes will load the Douai plant pending other electric models. "They are under study," promises the manufacturer, whose new product plan is still pending.

In recent years, most of Renault's made in France volumes (750,000 vehicles) have been made up of utility vehicles, assembled in Sandouville and Maubeuge. The two sites, which benefit from the good resilience of the "professional" market in Europe, seem immune to heavy restructuring. On the other hand, it should hit engineering and support functions, especially if the ties between Renault and Nissan become stronger. The poor financial results of the two partners leave them no choice but to find synergies.

Then just poor journalism..story is certainly out there, especially given their 2019 results and trying to work out how the Fiat deal will work

Renault has just presented its financial results for 2019, and as the manufacturer expected, they are not good. With global sales down 3.4% (to 3.8 million vehicles), sales fell 3.4% to 55.4 billion euros. Above all, the group posted its first net loss in ten years, with – 141 million euros. The operating margin dropped from 6.3 to 4.8%.

A leaf sized Tesla would be really good. Leaf is about optimum for me in terms of heft. It's a bit higher than a normal car but not abnormally so.
