Ford moving to Tesla charger connector in US

Ford recently announced they plan to update models from 2025 to come with Tesla’s charge port as standard, and will have access to all tesla chargers and plug-and-charge.

From I think next year (maybe this year?) they’ll still have CCS connectors but will also come with adapters to use Tesla superchargers while they transition fully across. Apparantly when they come with tesla as standard there will also be an option of an adapter to use CCS (eg for electrify america)

This seems a big deal - assume money involved which may help tesla build out more infrastructure. Wonder if others will follow?

I think for Europe where everything is CCS its less relevant but maybe we’ll see a licensing deal to allow Fords in europe access to all superchargers and plug‘n’charge?

It is actually as far as these thing go. Less about a "connector" and more about strategic cooperation between one of the biggest 'legacy' (there you go I did it) brands and the new kid on the block.

I think there will be far more to come of this special relationship personally.

It's either a bromance or an extremely strategic partnership. Can't figure out which quite yet 🤣
According to the video, Ford keeps their customers in their eco-system. I think that is a big deal for getting access to Tesla SC network, and avoiding tesla app/software.

If ford can stay out of the Tesla app, I think they are winning hands down, because Tesla was already giving free access anyway.

But that also means that Tesla now becomes the de-facto charging standard in the US, probably North America. To me that is scary.
Personally I think this one will go waaaaay further. It really would not surprise me if Ford and Tesla announce a joint model development in the next 6-12 months.
