Elon Musk has welcomed GM's recent announcement (source: Wall St. Journal) that they plan to release a new electric car to challenge Tesla's forthcoming "affordable" model.

According to the WSJ, Doug Parks, GM's vice president of global product programs, disclosed their planst on Monday at GM's battery laboratory and test facility in Warren, Mich. However he wouldn't commit to an release schedule for the vehicle, saying that while this is possible now, battery cost is still too high for it to be feasible.

As a response to this news, Elon Musk responded via his twitter account saying
Am happy to hear that GM plans to develop an affordable 200 mile range electric car. Right target. Hope others do same.
How real GM's plans are we don't know, but it's certainly another positive step in the right direction for EVs in the future.
