Hi, I have the 2017 Golf GTE, and am having problems charging. When I set the on dash menu, it seems randomly whether the car charges and conditions ready for the time. I used to override it with the app (VW connect), but now it seems VW is charging to use the app which seems ridiculous these days. I only need the app to initiate charging, nothing clever. So I then resort to pressing the charge button next to the charge lead, but even this isn't always foolproof and sometimes doesnt charge, so I end of locking and unlocking the car multiple times. Can anyone give me any advice? thanks

Not quite sure I understand, but I had an intermittent issue with scheduled charging on my 2018 GTE, and it turned out to be a break in one of the wires in the charging cable (I think it was the CP connection). Have you tested using a different cable, maybe the granny lead?
And yes, I just extended my subscription to the app services post standard warranty expiration.

Having this problem myself, coming up on 3 years of ownership and I still roll the dice every time I charge the car. I could come out the next morning and it will have stopped charging after adding maybe 2-3 miles of range. I have no scheduled charges and always check the green light is pulsing and the dash shows the remaining charge time. So irritating because everything else with the car is fantastic.

Luckily I never had any charging problems at home on the off peak rate so didn't need the app to start it. But I did find the app very useful for preheating the car before leaving home.
The £55 for the app I felt was probably worth paying for this.

If pressing the immediate button is not reliable then either your socket or type 2 cable have an intermittent fault and this will also explain the unreliable timed charging.
