Hi all, from my posts on twitter and FB , you may know that ive recently moved to Orkney.

The interest from islanders and esp the local counsel is HUGE in all things EV.

Attempting to get chargemaster to fit over 90 people with 16 amp wall chargers who are waiting !...to date around 8 EV's are on the Island , so as you can see , scope for business up here.

If you want any more info , drop me a message

regards

Jonathan

Hello, nice to have you on board posting here too. :D

As discussed on twitter and FB please make sure any publicly accessible Charging Stations in Orkney have Type 2 sockets. I really want to see EV touring in Scotland but for that we need compatible charging hardware :)

A well known motoring journalist almost got stranded yesterday when he visited a OLEV funded B&B in a BMW i3 and couldn't plug in  Luckily we had a ZeroNet location within range and managed to help but that could have been a PR disaster IMO.
Now a charging point at Pickaquoy Centre would be handy when on holiday though anywhere in Kirkwall centre would be close enough.

Hi h8ten a level 2 16/32 amp charger is now opposite Tescos , just down from the Pickaquoy Centre, you will need a 'Charge your Car' card £10 for life membership and charge is without a fee at present
Good to hear, I have the CYC card, it is the one I now use the most. I could park there and just walk back to the site.
Kirkwall charger opp Tescos (other supermarkets are available !)

Had a look on streetview and that car park is where I did my CBT for my bike licence whilst I was on holiday many years ago. Tesco has been updated since streetview too.

Sounds like a shrewd move. In the last week, I've just done the Outer Hebrides and currently in Islay (Inner Hebrides) and from what I've learned from the council, they are very keen to see a move towards renewable energy and are showing the way with their own charger network (Lewis, Harris, Benbecula and Barra). When you see a 30+ ton petrol tanker taking up 1/4 of the ferry space - you can see the fallacy? There is certainly a lot of renewable energy potential. Biggest player though is the ferry company (Caledonian MacBrayne) who are currently in the process of installing twin and tripple-head chargers at most of their ports! There is still much investment required to get EV traffic to the departure ports - but that will probably happen this year! Might try Orkney and Shetland - next year - see you then!:cool: PS All the good weather is up north this easter!
