So half term is nearly here and we are planning our first EV holiday as a Family. We are heading from home in South Leicestershire to Holmfirth in South Yorkshire / North Derbyshire Peaks. This is a distance of 97miles from home.

We have the advantage of having destination charging, as the guy we are renting our cottage from has just got an EV and is allowing us to use his charge point.

We are planning two shorter stops:
1) Trowel Services (35miles)
2) Woodall Services (35miles)

Woodall is currently showing as offline. I have checked with Ecotricity and this is because of additional charger installation. Hopefully this will be completed by next week.

Plenty of redundancy on the M1 so should be fine. My dealer is lending me a Type 1 - Type 2 cable for back up and I have a few different cards so should all be good.

Planning few day trips out and about. This will be our first trip outside the 'normal' usage, terrible I know after nearly a year of ownership.

Only real issue is packing the car as we have two small children and all the normal 'stuff'

Cheers

You could always charge at Tibshelf just before J29 on the M1, there's only 1 charger there but you can easily make it from Leceistershire, I regularly charge up at Leicester Forest East and drive to Tibshelf. I usually leave LFE with about 75% and arrive at Tibshelf with about 10% and that's driving at 70 most of the way. From Tibshelf and a good charge 80 +% you should make Holmfirth in one hit.

Change 'should' to 'will' make Holmfirth in one hit.

You'll be fine. So much redundancy on the M1.
When I first started slogging up and down the motorway I often failed to resist 'testing' each rapid as I came to them. This soon wears off, especially on m1 - especially if you plan a trip that sees you stopping to rapid charge when you've still got enough juice to reach the next charger (in case it's busy or broken).

It's a lovely part of the world.

If you've got overnight charging sorted out you shouldn't have any problems at all. Just charge up to 100% each night ad then go out for the day. If you get range anxiety you are driving too far.

Well we arrived easily! A quick 10 min top up to 85% at Trowell then an other 15 mins at Nissan Sheffield and we arrived with 30% remaining. 112 easy miles. the owner of our Holiday cottage has a Leaf Acenta on the Electric Avenue scheme and love it!

Status update. We arrived home safely and without incident after a weeks holiday and 400 miles in the Leaf. Not once did we suffer range anxiety and Elec highway served us faultlessly, only having to stop for 15mins once on the way back South. Over the week we averaged 4.4miles / kwh. This was probably helped by the fact that most of the M1 to Sheffield is limited to 50mph because of roadworks. Also managed to squeeze a fair amount of gubbins needed for a family holiday into the car too. All in all a very positive first EV holiday.
