Anyone know how to do this? I am routing a usb cable from in front of the rear view mirror to the power outlet in the dash storage tray (its to power my dashcam). So far I've got the cable neatly hidden up into the roof lining, across to drivers side pillar, down the pillar and in behind the fuse box at the side, across under the cover beneath the steering wheel. The last leg is up from here to the dash storage tray and the best way would be to temporarliy remove it..?

That sounds like a labour of love !
I presume it just clips in .....
But have no basis for that other than a guess.

Another thought though? The Ampera has an ignition slot in that tray for when the key fob battery is too low for the system to recognisd the remote.

There may therefore be some additional connections over what the Cruze may have.

I saw that slot yesterday and was thinking about drilling it out to get the usb connector through until I remembered it is for the ignition key! Phew.
That thread you referenced talks about a couple of screws but I cant see any?

Sorry it was not much help then.

I had thought there was more chance of finding information on the Volt with the much larger numbers sold and then remembered about sharing the Cruze platform as well so thought it might be useful. Obviously the Volt/Ampera is just that bit more complicated!!

Just remembered - I once downloaded the Chevy Volt workshop manual from somewhere (72Mb and 8,000 pages) and sure enough there is a page on "Instrument Panel Upper Centre Compartment Replacement."

This shows 2 screws behind the radio / sat nav that have to be removed first - I'll try this when at home and let you know how I get on...

I did it!

Once you pop off the sat nav / radio it reveals 2 screws (one of which is pictured below). Very awkward because they are at a funny angle but managed to remove them and the dash storage is then released - it just pulls out with the key thing and aux power socket attached.

It is then easy to get a fish wire from here down to where I'd got the cable to (behind the cover under the steering wheel - in front of your knees) and pull the usb cable back up. I then drilled a hole in the storage tray for the cable and put it all back together. The cable is now completely concealed all the way from the rear view mirror to the aux power socket in dash tray!

I needed mine once when I had to open the door with the mechanical lock. Beware the alarm goes off anyway if you do that, so it is imperative you know how to get the key in that hole and can press start quickly to avoid embarrassment. I recommend removing the battery on the spare and having a practice run. It doesn't recognise the key with a physical lock in that hole - it just holds the fob in the right place for a close quarters induction based recognition to work.

It would be great to share if you are happy with that. At 72 Mb it will be too large for most email servers to accept. Some form of file sharing dropbox would likely be best. Unless that is you still have the link to where you downloaded it from originally?

did you remove the rubber mat that lines the bottom of the tray? Its just pulls out and its underneath there...
