A very rough rule of thumb is divide your battery capacity in kWh by your charge rate in kW and add 10% (charger efficiency and charging tail off).

For a Leaf;

24kWh / 3.3kW = 7.27 + 0.72 = 7.99 hours

24kWh / 6.6kW = 3.64 + 0.36 = 4.00 hours

24kW / 40kW = 0.60 + 0.06 = 0.66 hours (~40 minutes to 100%)

19.2kW / 40kW = 0.48 + 0.05 = 0.53 hours (~32 minutes to 80%)

Kevin's rule of thumb is pretty good except that I would add a bit more time because of the slow down so much towards the end of a charge. This slowing is not so important on slower charging but on the 50kW rapid chargers it starts to drop the charge power when nowhere near full.

I have found that to get a near 100% charge on a 50kW charger can take 50 mins or more when I start at 15%. It is worth remembering too that these so called 50kW CHAdeMO chargers never 50kW to the battery... typically they start at 370V x 105A = 38.8kW and never get faster than that.

So you might want to modify that rule of thumb for the 40kW to be nearer +40% to 100% & +20% to 80% which would be much more realistic. So for the Leaf that would give:

24kWh / 40kW = 0.60 + 0.24 = 0.84 hours (~50 minutes to 100%)

19.2kWh / 40kW = 0.48 + 0.10= 0.58 hours (~35 minutes to 80%)

These figures are much more in keeping with my experience. :)
