Having lived in the USA, I think that the UK has more car brand snobbery than the states and with the pricing of the Ampera being in BMW/Lexus/Audi bracket, Vauxhall are finding it hard to get drivers to switch.
Being a great car with very low BIK, the Ampera *should* be popular as a company car. Unfortunately the crazy high contract hire prices make it too expensive - you can get a nice spec BMW 520 for the monthly rental of an Ampera :-(
One ray of hope is that the new congestion charging rules will drive more sales in London as there will not be many CC "free" cars some 1 July...
