"press the button marked record" I hear you say - but nothing happens when I do this. Is there a particular mode you have to be in or a mysterious sequence of button pushes?

Ah, no wonder I was confused, this must relate to the Electron-spec radio :)

I've never managed to get record or pause to work. I gave up.
Hi Paul (many thanks for your generous input on this Forum by the way - much appreciated)., I thought I'd read on another thread that you'd had to record music to first wake up your HDD menu? I thought that you were referring to the radio. I'm sure I read in the manual you can do it (couldn't swear to that though)

Are you sure this is possible? All sorts of copyright restrictions in place, I would have thought.

I found the Ampera Audio manual online:
http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/content/dam/Vauxhall/Europe/united_kingdom/nscwebsite/uk/Home/pdf/Owners_Services/owners_manuals/Ampera Infotainment_Manual_June_2012.pdf

It contains this statement:
"Songs can be recorded from a CD
player or a mass media storage
device connected by a USB
connector"

You can Timeshift, but I don't think that's what you're looking for as it only records for 20 minutes.

time shift would be a great start. How do I do that then?

edit found it - page 22 I'll give it a try (pause button rather than record) thanks for that link very useful to have an electronic copy. now to find out what on earth the Nav does when I accidentally touch the screen during route guidance....

The timeshift feature automatically
begins recording the audio when
listening to the radio.

The recording allows playback of
content that was missed.

Timeshift stores up to 20 minutes of
content. After 20 minutes, it removes
the oldest content and continues
recording new content.

While listening to the radio, press
(Play/Pause) to stop hearing the
information through the speaker.

During this paused time, timeshift
keeps recording. A status bar
displays the length of the recording.

To resume listening to the broadcast
at the point left off, press (Play/Pause) again.

Timeshift stops recording and erases
the buffer when the vehicle is turned
off or the station or source is changed.

Before turning the vehicle off, press
(Play/Pause) so that timeshift keeps recording
for 20 minutes. If the vehicle is still off
after 20 minutes, the system stops
recording and all information is lost. If
a low 12-volt battery condition occurs,
timeshift stops recording and all
information is erased.

My timeshift just does nothing when I press record. Tried it many times now. I will try again tomorrow... you never know!

The manual says time shift is activated by pressing play/pause, not record.

I am wondering if you have to press 'Record' then at any point until your switch off your can rewind back up to a maximum of 20 minutes (depending on how long it has been since you started the recording)? A bit like an early version of Sky+. Try again tomorrow as it was unsuccessful today.
@flipper you got me mid typing, I have tried that but nothing happened. I need to dig through the manual.

Again (sorry) the manual says that Time shift starts automatically when you choose radio - you just press play/pause to pause it for up to 20 minutes.
