It might be that it is being twisted as it is being coiled up. You might need to 'rotate' it lengthways to stop the twisting. I used to have this with my public charge cable until I noticed that if I let it untwist as I wound it up it would be fine. Try coiling it up from the wallbox end first and allow it to untwist as you coil it up.
