Edit 25/02/21: VW have posted on their website that they are now taking bookings for 2.1 - ID.3 software update | Important Information | Volkswagen UK
Original content from this post is in the quote section at the bottom.

Now available: the update for your ID.3! Please visit us so we can update the software of your vehicle. Find additional information here as well as the relevant next steps.

What additional functionality does the Software update provide?
In addition to the promised App Connect (across all ID.3 trim levels) and the augmented reality Head-up-Display (on Tech, Max and Tour trims), the ID.update will also provide your ID.3 with these additional functions:

App-Connect
Use your apps also in the car! Connect your smartphone and your ID with App-Connect to conveniently use your selected apps such as music, news, maps or audio books.

Convenient charging and time-controlled climatisation
Use the time-controlled climatization to preset the preferred temperature in your car via smartphone according to your scheduled departure time. You’re already on your way? Charging breaks are automatically scheduled as your navigation system has access to more than 85,000 charging stations in Europe. It also allows you to plan charging according to your individual departure time.

Intelligent assistance systems and new digital systems
The Connected Active Cruise Control (Connected ACC) enables the vehicles to perform so-called Car-2-X-Communication and adjusts the set speed according to the situation.

Nice to know: the digital owners manual is available within the infotainment system of your vehicle. This allows you to search for required information via voice control. Furthermore you can listen to internet radio stations in your infotainment system via the web radio.

Charging
The automated introduction of charging stops in the navigation using more than 85,000 charging points across Europe. Plus the capability to send charging Point-of-Interest (POIs) from a smartphone to the car navigation system. What’s more, the charging timer function enables users to schedule charging in relation to the planned time of departure.

Air Conditioning
The time-controlled air conditioning system allows the vehicle to be air-conditioned according to the desired departure time.

Driver Assistance Systems
Connected Active Cruise Control (Connected ACC) allows Car-2-X communication and situation adaption of travelling speed.

Infotainment Functions
The digital car manual enables users to find car information via speech control. Web Radio can also be used to play internet radio stations via the ID.3 infotainment system.

As part of the continuous product development, the update will also contain numerous performance improvements and software changes.

Over the air updates
We will also install software to enable ’over the air updates’ as part of this software package. This means that the car will not need to go to a retailer for minor software updates in the future. Furthermore WeShop purchased options will also be delivered directly to your car.

I was forwarded an internal VW memo about the update, which I will not share in it's entirety (please don't ask me, I don't want to get anyone in trouble). This is the useful section about the 2.0 update

What functionality changes are included in the updates?

ID. software 2.0 includes two outstanding functions missing from early production cars: App Connect (across all ID.3 trim levels) and remote AR head-up display (on Tech, Max and Tour trims). It also includes these function updates:

Charging
The automated introduction of charging stations in the navigation, using more than 85,000 charging points across Europe and the capability to send charging points of interest from a smartphone to the car navigation system. The charging timer function allows scheduling of charging in relation to the planned time of departure.

Air conditioning
The time-controlled air conditioning system allows the car to be air-conditioned according to the planned departure time.

Driver assistance systems
Connected Active Cruise Control (Connected ACC) allows Car-2-X communication and situation adaptation of travelling speed.
The update also includes many performance improvements and software changes. These software improvements will address functionality issues related to the following systems:
  • Display of the airbag warning light without cause
  • Unintentional discharge of the 12V battery
  • Unintended loss of the AutoHold function
  • Block of online mode
  • Malfunctions of the ID. lights
  • Malfunctions of the ID. display
ID. software 2.1 will include the final functions missing from early production cars. This means the car can receive and install ‘over air’ updates, so customers won’t have to visit a Retailer to have certain software updates completed. This functionality will not be available until Q1 2021 at the earliest.

Edit: As this is a popular question/discussion, these are the installation timings published in the VW info.

ID. software installation times
Software level, Time required

ID.Software2.0 only, 6-7 hours
ID.Software2.0 & 2.1 at the same time, 7-9 hours
ID.Software2.1 only, 1-2 hours

Thanks for starting a thread. I was thinking of doing the same, as the software glitches affect so many other things. I had heard about a version 2.0 and 2.1. It looks like it will require two trips to the dealers over the next few months.

As a recap:
0564 came with all ID.3s up until December 2020
0570 is being applied as a bug fix for certain issues from November 2020 onwards, but is not put routinely on new cars
0783 has been seen on one vehicle which supposedly had the ME2/2.0 code
0792 is the 2.1 update

Yeah, it needs a thread as it pops up in just about all of them anyway.

The last paragraph... I read it first as this update 2.0 has OTA updates but the first updates “this functionality” won’t be sent until Q1 2021. So it’s in the update, but there’ll be no functionality to it until 2021 when we have updates to send.

But I can see how it can be read as the whole thing not until 2021. But then if those leaks of people already having ME2/0783 are right then maybe my reading it correct?

It’ll be good for everyone to use this thread to keep up to date with when others are getting updated.

I think it means that 2.1 is the patch that allows OTA updates, but those OTA updates will not start being available until Q1. It's not very clear whether 2.0 or 2.1 is actually the currently available latest patch. It probably won't help that the software version in the car itself is the 4 digit number instead of the 2.x convention.

A few updates from the Facebook groups.

First another in the wild sighting of 0783 which is 2.0. It's the guy who had the very first ID.3 so looks like an upgrade to existing rather than out of the factory. He added that installation time depends on your current software. It can take as little as 1 hour or up to 9 hours, with most taking 6-7.

Second, a guy says he's booked in a Leamington VW for a 2.0 update they are doing their first update today. They said it takes 8 hours so they are keeping it overnight.

Sounds like it could be happening.

Haha, well it might be happening. Prepare for disappointment and be surprised with success.
I'm just taking the attitude that by the time my Tour is ready at the end of February / start of March, 2.1 will be released and I'll never have any problems or glitches. That's perfectly realistic, right? 😬 ;)

Thank you to all the beta testers 😄 - although in all honesty, if I could have a slightly glitchy car (maybe with 2.0) before then I'd take it. Me, impatient?!

Does 2.0 bring OTA or not? Sounded like 2.1 brings this, but now sounds like 2.0 brings wifi connectivity?

Only reason I ask is dealer has basically tried to put me off getting 2.0 and said to wait for 2.1 to save coming in twice. Wondering whether to just go for 2.0 anyway given 2.1 could be a while yet or just wait it out.

If the update takes 8-hours/overnight, it's understandable that dealers want to prevent doing it twice! I sound like 2.1 adds the over-the-air update feature.

I wanted to be front of the queue for 0783 or 2.0 but I might wait for 2.1 unless I have serious problems in the meantime. My dealer might invite me in anyway...

For me, 2.0 brings enough features, and hopefully improvements, that will make the car much better day to day. I can wait for OTA updates until it's in for it's first service, or if there's an OTA update that adds something that I'd want I could book it in again.

If it's not in 2.0 its a very strange decision by VW's software department. I would have thought that was priority #1 given the logicatics.
