I have fitted 16" wheels on both of our LEAF24 Teknas which improved range (with the same brand of tyres, but 10mm less width - 205 vs 215) and subjectively ride quality. However, despite being the "correct" recommended fitting (and on standard Nissan LEAF wheels) they are considerably smaller diameter than the 17" versions. Online calculators suggest these are around 5.5% smaller diameter (and hence circumference) than the 17", and that 60 profile are only 2.4% smaller and 65 profile are only 0.69% larger respectively. The only other factor is that the 205/55/R16 is a very competitive price point for tyres and the other sizes are 30 - 40% more.
Has anyone tried fitting higher profile 16" tyres on their LEAF? Are there any downsides (other than in theory handling but there is so much other vagueness in the standard set up it would make little difference)?
