I was wondering if the EVDA would like to write a letter demanding a response within 14 days about the shoddy state of the UK charging infrastructure and reliability issues with member products.

If anyone ever doubts what stifles innovation it's things like this. People building prototypes in sheds is how everything in engineering starts out.

But think how bad it would be if people discovered those expensive EVSEs were just three off-the-shelf components in a box. What would that do to the valuation of your company with its special technology?

It seems unlikely that they really do care about a handful of DIY people, or that there is much they can do about it.

I imagine the larger concern is the army of startup companies that could start producing EVSEs at very low cost once it becomes widely known just how simple they really are and demand starts to ramp up. None of these companies really have a decent barrier to entry or any significant intellectual property so they need to create a protection guild and lobby like crazy to maintain position.

Maintaining the veil of technology sophistication is an important part of that. Videos on the web that show you can build one in your garage in an afternoon really don't help at all.

I have a 32A pod point home charging unit that was making rhythmic clicking noises sometimes (1 a second). I have had a BG POLAR installed now... because I could... and removed the pod point for repair and installation at my new house when I move.

Do you think this is repairable cheaply?

The clunking sound was a software issue - if you give PodPoint a call they should be able to get it updated for you. (I know several of us had this problem and it was resolved eventually.)
