Eight new InstaVolt rapids going in at the Premier Inn/Frankie & Benny's just off J11 of the M40 at Banbury, plus a couple just gone in at Costa Coffee up here in Sheffield.

These guys are really pushing hard - well done InstaVolt!

Add 2x more rapids going to central Berwick-upon-Tweed - much needed in that neck of the woods!

I have thought for a long time that many Premier Inn sites being on A Roads and having food/coffee/wc would be great locations for rapid chargers.

Excellent. If they could do that at every MSA it would be the real game changer. Any idea when they will be going live ?

They're doing well. Had to use the ones south of Stansted over the weekend (Cornwall Garage) - the right one was next to muddy grass, so difficult to get out of the car. The left one also has the tyre pump next to it so had a transit parked there doing his tyres. The toilets in the garage were out of order. Ecotricity never looked so attractive.

There are quite a few Chargers( from many different companies) at Service Stations that are in pretty poor places. A good few have great shops etc but no toilets.
Another criticism is the locations on the sites. The Geniepoint Chargers at the new Starbucks site close to Jcn 10 of the M25 is a classic 'shoot self in foot'. The charger is close to the entrance (good) but the parking bay is totally silly in its width. I tried to use it but the spaces either side were occupied by 'White Van Man' Transits. There was no space at all even for a Zoe to get in between them. Once again their is more 'form over function' and 'Ease of Use' has been totally ignored when it comes to the choice of site location for chargers.
Thankfully many Instavolt's are installed in pairs and with a decent size parking bay.

Yep, it's a no brainer for the landlords (y)

"We install rapid DC electric vehicle chargers for free, and we’ll even pay our partner-landlords a rental income for allowing us to place our rapid chargers on their site"

At InstaVolt we take care of everything

Our no cost, hassle-free solution includes:

  • DNO application for a separately metered independent electricity supply
  • Complete turnkey supply and installation
  • All running costs and ongoing maintenance, maximising the availability of the charging units
  • Continual investment in the charging units to ensure they stay best in class
  • Full maintenance from our team of engineers to ensure it is the most reliable EV rapid charging infrastructure in the UK

The landlord does have to commit for a very long time, this can reduce the value of a site for development.

Two 150kW units being installed at Costa Coffe Mansfield
I expect these are max 150Amp, with 125kw shared between the two cars. Very misleading naming by the charger manufacturer.

Just looked on the map and Mansfield now seem to have a Plan A,B,C and D, will be interesting how much Instavolt takes from the other rapids due to having a pair of charger and being a little higher powered.

These might pick up some M1 traffic but being 5 miles from J28 it is a stretch. However the only Ecotricity MSA near there is a single unit at Tibshelf services, so who knows.

There is also a lot of traffic going to/from the moterway and across country.

These charging networks are in a "land grab" for when most new cars are EV (Instavolt demands 20 year leases), not trying to place a handful of chargers to cover the county for current long distance EV drivers.

Agreed. Stayed at a fairly new Premier hotel at Heathrow recently that has approx 10 destination chargers. Parking charged for guests at £5 per day. Diners register and get 3 hours free parking all overseen by CCTV. Chargers have warning signs that if you are not charging a PCN is applicable. Arrived at 6pm and only 3 spaces for charging available all others iced. Got a full charge overnight. Don't think iceing is punished as CCTV is on entry and exit and parking is mostly undercover. Asked at reception about there policy on iceing and the answer was to get reg numbers and they would ask whoever was blocking charger to move not sure what would happen if you arrive late at night. Still it is progress.

How did you find out about this? Do you know when they will be online at all?
