As you probably know, I’ve got numerous issues with my ID3 (now 2 weeks old). Over a week ago, 20 pages of logs were sent back to Germany for analysis and today there’s finally a response and glimmer of hope.

It seems VW have identified a number of cars experiencing weird issues and there appears to be a common factor - all cars were upgraded to 2.1 using a specific version of VW’s update / diagnostic software (in fact the latest version). VW have asked my dealer to roll back their software to a specific previous version and then undertake the 2.1 update again and see what happens.

I admit it’s far from ideal - I feel like a beta tester, but it’s the first time I’ve been provided any update from VW, that actually seems to be based on research rather than guesswork, so I’m taking a positive view.

I’ll provide updates, but if this turns out to be a solution, it may help numerous other ID3 drivers with odd problems

I have a 'fear' in my bones whenever a VW dealer talks about speaking to the factory or Germany.

In my case it involved one of their HV technicians flying out to visit VW Leeds, to eventually determine that the HV pack had to be replaced.

I really don't want to know how much that cost VW especially given they gave me a loaner for 2 months (this was with a GTE, back in 2018 or so.)

Funnily enough I've just had the same conversation with my service manager - my car has been stuck for the last two weeks having failed the 2.1 update - they have rolled back to the earlier update software and it seems to be working, should know for sure tomorrow!

A problem with the update of the machine that does the update of the machine that does the update of the machine that does the update of the machine that does the update of the machine that does the update of the machine that does the update of the machine that does the update of the car. :ROFLMAO:

This is hilarious.

I hope that they can get past this quickly, we need EV's on the road, the ICE's are still winning.

The problem is there was a human in the loop.

My ID3 has been in the garage for almost three weeks (and no sign of its return!) Talks of new servers and software tweaking don’t inspire confidence . Any idea how long I am likely to be without my car? It’s seriously inconveniencing and damaging my confidence in the brand and my car.

I’m struggling with the entire thing. On one hand, I love the car, but on the other, I admit to being extremely worried about the unpredictable nature of the faults, possible long term implications, as well as the vague hope of possible solutions - it all feels very amateur and really leaves a very uneasy feeling. After more issues yesterday, I just wanted rid of the thing, but this morning, I just don’t know. If there was an alternative EV that I liked, things would be much easier - I’d then just dump it on the dealers doorstep.

I feel the same. I feel it would be a big gesture by VW to replace the cars which have displayed these faults - apparently we are a select few! A new ID3 (mine has done fewer than 2000 miles) or a voucher towards a different VW would go a long, long way to restore brand faith and trust in the company.

My wife's ID3 threw more than a few errors on the original software, then even more on 2.0.

2.1 bricked it and the components needed to fix it were on back order with an unknown wait.

Calm conversations with VW Executive and the (excellent) Service Manager at the dealer elicited a no-cost like-for-like replacement which, to date, hasn't put a wheel wrong.

It's a cracking car and so I've got one of my own on order.

Mine has done just over 300, I went out earlier and once again I couldn’t unlock it, had to resort to the physical key.

Anyway, I’ve made a decision, I’m looking at alternatives - not really keen on any that are available now, apart from the Polestar, but I always liked my Volvos.

I’ve taken the first step, spoken to Polestar and I’m arranging a test drive next week at Polestar Spaces Manchester.

You’ve had all your money back? One of the things that spooked me was a big red warning flashing across the windscreen when I was in the fast lane of a motorway. Terrifying! My airbag was (apparently) disabled, my headlight )apparently) malfunctioning and the ACC was very flaky, refusing to work altogether immediately after recharging. I bought my car outright. If I’d bought it on finance I’d probably be in a position to demand a new car or a refund even!

No - but as it was faulty on collection and they’ve had an attempt to fix (failed), I’m legally allowed to reject. I purchased outright, so I should just get a refund

You're getting up to Tesla Model 3 price territory with a Polestar aren't you? Why not the Tesla out of interest? Just don't fancy them?
I don’t fancy the price of either of them, but I can’t keep doing nothing. It looks like, unless I go back to an ICE, I’m going to have to find more pennies, if I want an EV.

In terms of Tesla - not really interested, I don’t like the shape. Also, I’m still not convinced by Tesla’s approach, I accept that many think they are the bees knees, but I wasn’t a big fan when I drove a model 3, I found it confusing, hard work and interfering. In addition, everyone you harps on about performance, don’t get me wrong, I like decent acceleration, but the Tesla just seems excessive - I’m probably just too old

Yeah, it's a shame there's nothing else out that is new design at the moment in the ID.3's class. Everything else is either a class lower in price or a class higher.

I like the Polestar's looks a lot too, much better than the Model 3 (though I guess the M3 partly achieves it's excellent efficiency from its design, so I guess it depends on the trade off you want to make on that), but the supercharger network would probably swing me to the Tesla I think.

I hope you enjoy the Polestar if you get it! I think you deserve a good ownership experience after your nightmare experience with the ID.3!!

I’m going to speak to the dealer again tomorrow - I really wanted the ID3 to work out, it ticked so many boxes. I think I’ve just lost confidence, due to the random nature of the problems.

I’ll be honest, I don’t know what approach to take and the longer it’s going on, the more stress it’s creating.
